I'm pretty confused by Chip's and Nam's latest posts. Someone care to explain? Am I seriously missing something, or with all due respect, did a couple people pick the wrong week to quit sniffing glue?

It seems pretty simple to me - a template with one arm on it produces an avatar with two arms mapped from that single arm. No matter how many layers one applies to that arm, they are always mirrored on the other avatar arm. This has nothing to do with generalized texture layers.
So, maybe my visual explanation lacked a little clarity, but I typed it up in less than 10 seconds. It just didn't seem worth getting into a long explanation over. PS. here's the image I was thinking of _____________________

Hm, yeah, even with different layers, they will always still look the same because you can't turn one arm off for a specific template layer. Oh well. Good idea, though.
Probably the easiest way to give us two arm design capability would be for Linden Lab to allow a second template to control the left arm independently. For most outfits, it'd be the same template, but for those who want something different, you could choose a different left arm template. Of course, that's just one more template to load and bake! And it doesn't seem like LL is that motivated to bring us another skin/tatoo layer, which would be more useful, imho. |

You guys are right, of course. Ignore my earlier rambling, as it wouldn't actually work. It seemed so brilliant at the time! I blame it on the drugs.

Getting all the anatomy in the right place is the hardest part of making skins, so it's the part people are least likely to share. I tried to do it subtly with the shading guide layers in my templates but I made them a little too subtle to be very useful (seemed like a good idea at the time). I may release something more helpful the next time I update my templates, but no idea when that will be or if I'll change my mind ![]() i use to have ur website bookmarked to your templates you made, do you still have them available? _____________________

Whoops, Nam, looks like I misread you. Where your post said "Logically, I don't thing there is...", I missed the word "don't", so I thought it said "Logically I think there is...". That's why the one armed man in the mirror analogy didn't make sense to me. Sorry about that. Temporary blindness, I guess.
Chip, hehe, drugs are a good excuse, but personally I would have gone with evil brain melting aliens. Much more believable. ![]() _____________________

Much more believable. ![]() hehehe, I like brain melting aliens better, but it was actually theraflu nightime formula induced brain flatulence. ![]() Edit: Now since they're planning to let us stack numerous textures then all they'd need to add is the ability to have mask layers. THEN my idea would work. (Yes, I know I'm dreaming). _____________________

Well, quite clearly what we've learned from this thread is that Theraflu is manufactured by evil brain-melting aliens. That's was worth learning, I think.

LOL Chosen! I knew there was a reason I avoid Theraflu!
![]() Chip, I'm guessing you're still on it, since even if they gave us masking layers, it won't work. They stacked the left arm UVs under the right arm, and nothing they can do, short of allowing us to use multiple maps, and then giving us multiple maps to use, can fix that. (Well, I suppose they could also just junk these maps, and use good ones; but that would cause Open Rebellion, I'm sure! I don't even wanna think what would happen if every single piece of clothing in-world suddenly broke!) _____________________

This morning when I went to make coffee I couldn't find the sugar. It was in the refrigerator. ![]() _____________________

Could someone either post those files for mac users or explain what part of the library they are in? -------------------- addenda ---------------------- I am told that to get to the tga files you do this: "right click on the icon, show package contents, then go contents > resources > character" or cmd click or apple click on the icon as needed. _____________________

Wow, Chip. It might be Brain-Melting Aliens; but then again, it could just be mice.
My partner, Skyia, claims that mice open her boxes of chocolates and consume large amounts, and they've been known to get into her rum, too. And they apparently steal socks out of the dryer, as well. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were moving the sugar bowl. Or perhaps it's Brain-Melting Aliens masquerading as mice! ![]() _____________________

You!? Nah.
I'm going with evil-alien-brain-melting-mice. After all, we know that the mice commissioned the planet... ![]() _____________________

After all, we know that the mice commissioned the planet... ![]() You guys are hilarious ![]() Chip, I made the same mistake, probably because I wanted to find a solution so badly. You certainly had me on the edge of my seat for about 2 seconds ![]() Chosen, I try hard not to be too confusing. Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words. Speaking of pictures - I'm sorry to have to inform all of you that this brain melting actually happens, only they're not alien mice, and they live right here on this planet! WARNING! hehe, this seems to be a repeating pattern for me. About every six months I suddenly think to myself "aha! Why didn't I think of this before?!" followed shortly by "er... oh. Never mind
