Eyeglasses: Are these an object or part of a skin? I see them on other avatars . . .

. . . but I don't even know where to start looking.
And if you have an avatar you like, can you simply add spectacles to it? Or do you need to build an avatar from scratch that incorporates glasses?

Thank you for your help.

Glasses are made from prims and textures which attach to your nose, forehead, chin or other head attachment point. Do a "Find" on phrases like 'eyeglasses', 'sunglasses', etc. There are some really well-done ones for sale and they're usually not expensive at all.

I wear sunglasses if I'm in a Matrix kinda mood, or I'll put on spectacles if I want to look scary smart. It's like hair - put on or take off at will.

Now that you have set my mind at ease, I will have to find some cats' eye glasses or rectangular architect frames.

that's the cool thing about SL. you dont have to level up or have a built in feature for those looks you want, you can simply build or buy as you please.

Hi,
I am trying to make glasses with prims, but I can't get the size of each lens smaller than .1m- that's great if I'm looking for the "Jack Black on Celebrity Poker" look, but unfortunately, I ain't. How do I shrink the size of the glasses to fit on my avatar's face?

Detailled instructions (and more handy tricks) in this thread, but basically, if you're using a cylinder to make the lense, change the cylinder into a sphere using the drop-down menu on the Object tab, dimple the sphere to, say, B 0.8, E 1.0, turn it back into a cylinder - et voila, thin cylinder slice :) The more you dimple the sphere, the thinner that cylinder slice will be.

. . . sharing it. I need to read it over a few more times but the pictures you attached really help. It makes my actually attempting something like that feel possible.

Thanks Jackal for the tips on working with prims- I now have a pair of glasses (simple, but I like them!). I used the torus prim to start and just trimmed the ends and sides until I had a small oval lens shape
