i have spent HOURS creating a sculpty in zbrush. now i have it saved as an obj file and want to convert it to png.

i tried sculptymaker, but it refuses to work and keeps locking up.

any advice and/or tips?

If you get anything, I wanna know too. I'm half ready to buy a .obj export tool for Alibre but can't find a way to turn the exported files into sculpt maps. (>_<;)

thing is, i made a mushroom in zbrush, converted it to PNG and then uploaded it to SL in January. then i lay the program down to do other things, and i can't remember how i did the conversion. i don't remember it being sculptymaker (free program) because i had to download that yesterday... grrrrrrr

Hi;
i must admit, that i have no experience with z-brush, but from some threads of the builder forum i got the impression, it had good support for making sculpties. Not sure, if this one helps:

/8/a9/266269/1.html

Otherwise i am sure, you find the answer in the builders forum. Watch out for posts from "Vlad Bjornson", who i appears to know a lot about zbrush. He also has created this incredible cool video about "how to make a mushroom with zbrush..." At the end he could not convince me, so i turned to blender, but so what ;-)

have fun,
Gaia

i've been reading about conversion in the texture tips forum, with no joy. didn't occur to me to try the building forum. thank you. off i go.

Sculptymaker and the zsculpty plugin save as a bmp.

Maybe you're looking for the wrong file?

What are the dimensions of the object? It needs to be initialized to 32x33 or a multiple to the power of 2, but not too high. Anything else will lock up the converter.

I think that's the problem I'm having. Alibre is an industrial design application like SolidWorks, so it and the export tool has no controls or visualizations for LOD. (T_T)

You might try changing the stitching type?

http://kanae.net/secondlife/nuime.html

The upload lossless or other optimizations might've screwed a pixel or two. Try changing the stitch type to something else. You can also use the free sculpting tools on kanae.net to import other file types and re-export.

seriously - i followed every tip in the thread (except stitching, i don't know what that means and i don't think they were talking to me), and created a brand new funky shape with all sorts of dynamics - to see if the most tortured sphere could withstand the conversion - and i still can't get mine to convert.

can i email this obj file to someone and see if YOU can make it work? maybe someone else's keen eye can tell me what i'm doing wrong. i'm all but ready to give up.

thank you in advance.

THere is 3 thing that you need to do before you make the tool in workpan (or what name it has)

1st Initialize - on the left pan near the bottom, it only appears till you hit the "Make polimesh3D" button, and that has to be, 32 on HDivide and 33 on Vdivide.

2nd Make polimesh3D - after you initialize u hit this button ONCE or you might ruin the the sculpt.

3rd divide - if you for any reason divided your tool, u need to put it on the lower subdivided mesh that is 1, if you dont do so sculpty maker or even Zculpty is not able to make the sculpt map, because it has to many poligons.

i hope i helped you with this, and if there are any errors or even everyone tryed diferent initialize then 32x33 and it worked, well good for you, for me it doesnt! so dont bother saying to me it does work, dont even reply if thats the issue.
