Skin and clothing mixed up

Good morning!

Last night I put a new pair of pants on ( short capris) and the lower part of my legs appeared to have skin coloured "bell bottoms" on . I tried several different pairs on pants etc to the same result. I also tried my other human skins and drow skin.

I then tried it out on 2 other computerss and it looked exactly the same.

Is there anything I can do short of remaking my shape?

Thank you,
Sidona

Sounds like you have some corrupted files in your cache. You can check this by going in to appearance mode with the pants on. If they look normal in the thumbnail images then the problem is in your cache image. To fix it make a minor adjustment to the tint (like change it by 1) and then hit "save." That will cause your client to rebake the cache image and will usually fix it.

I can see the problem in "appearence" as well. If I put on long pants, it is still there, but visible under them ( looking up pant leg)

Thanks for the reply

Could you post a screenshot? It'd be much easier to diagnose that way. :)

Im having the same problem, and I have hundreds of dollars worth of ruined skin, clothes, shoes, etc... literally. Many of them are NOT able to be edited. Anyone have any ideas on what can be done? Or am I just out the money :(

You can sometimes correct wrongly baked clothing on your avatar by changing or activating your group.

Read Chip's post #2 in this thread... play with something like the colour by 1 tick and it usually fixes it. Clearing cache can help too.

Every now and then a skin will get stuck with a scrambled texture and the usual tricks won't fix it. In that case your best bet is to contact the creator and see if they can send you a replacement. If it's no-transfer that shouldn't be a problem. That almost always fixes it. In the off off chance that it's still borked after that, see if you can get a mod version so you can do the "adjust pigment by 1" trick.

There is a surefire fix for this now, Hit Control Alt D to bring up the debug menus, go to the client menu, and select character, and select rebake textures. That rebakes your whole av and usually fixes any weirdness.

Well, I guess I'm not fixed now 8(

I made a duplicate of my shape on an alt avy on another PC, and sent it to myself. Same wierdness.

I have about 15 skins that I have tried and they all look the same.

I re-installed Sl on 3 PC's, same thing.

I also tried the re bake textures, clothed and nude.

I really dont know what to do from here.

Heres a link to the picture, skin is supposed to be that colour, its my drow skin.(pardon the chest shot):

Looks like the texture on the pants doesn't go down all the way to the ankle seam so you're seeing your skin flared out. The way pants work, since they aren't a seperate mesh object, is by puffing the polygons of your legs out. Try adjusting the length of the pants up until it meets the bottom of the pants texture. The textures themselves look okay so doesn't appear that you have any scrambled in your cache.

I tried that, the pants and skin shorten..at the same rate. so I still end up with skin

A friend loaned me her skin, and shape and clothes..I have the same thing occurring. Any sort of item, no matter the length in the pants slot gives me that effect ( ie daisy dukes)

I forgot to mention, I gave my alt Avy all my stuff ( clothes, and shape) back to her. She looks normal.

hmmm, that is truly odd. Do you have any socks or underpants on? You might try doing a process of elimination. Take off everything but your skin, including any attachments. Then put stuff back on one item at a time to see if there's a specific thing that's making your legs go wonky. I'm a bit stumped at the moment.

I have 100% stripped myself of everything. Is there a chance my avatar is corrupted on the server side somehow?

There have been bugs that have caused avatars to have their heads go wonky, and one that caused people to appear as if they'd put their heads up their bums, but I haven't heard of this particular one. Does it happen with any shape that you wear?

You're welcome, Sidona. Sorry I wasn't more help. I'm afraid I'm out of theories at the moment. Definitely file a bug report on that. You might want to try clearing your cache and then uninstalling and reinstalling SL. That's a longshot but you never know. If that doesn't do it you might need to contact support (unless someone else comes along who knows a fix). Good luck!

Yeah I tried rebake textures. I reinstalled Sl on all pC's almost right away after discovering the problem.

I jst noticed, Im seeing the corruption on some other avatars now. The pc my alt plays on does not have that issue, and I have not loaded the affected avatar on that PC yet. I wonder if some serverside file is corrupted for her?

Im really stumped lol.

Yeah it defiantely looks like what chip had stated before. That is a common occurence caused by the pants being cut off with an alpha channel. It should however if that is the problem be fixed by shortening the pants that shouldnt be moving up higher. If your talking when you shorten it that the bottom of the pants has skin showing....I usually fix this by wearing a pair of socks the same color as the pants. You could if neccessary also use underwear to do this Depending where the pants are socks may look silly. Could you take a screen of what is happening when you shorten them and show me a pic of that on here so i have a better idea of what your saying????

Yes, sometimes you get stuck with the 'merged' texture of your skin/clothes and then it just doesn't update no matter how you change your outfit.

It may be possible to get rid of it... first, check in the preferences on Adv.Graphics page, and set the Outfit Composite Limit to 1. This i think controls how many outfits you wore lately remain cached, so the lesser number, the higher chance you'll force the texture update. With that done, find any basic 'Linden skin' in the Library folder (one of these that doesn't use any skin textures) and put it on. Leave it on for a few minutes, as it takes SL a while to actually re-bake and upload the final version of your looks. Then put back on your usual clothes. If it's not something different and really weird going on, they'll be downloaded and re-baked anew by the cline, rather than using the 'wrong' cached texture o.O;
