Want to know a secret?

Wood Workshop is a completely freeware program for making totally custom seamless tiled wood textures of any type you can imagine. It's slick as hell.

Now, do me a favor... use some decent wood textures, for the love of god :p

Thanks for sharing this information Kris! Wheeeeee... freee! And oh, is there one for other kinds of textures like metal? *reads* Looks like that will all be unveiled in Genetica 2, the "full version".

Anyone currently use Genetica? Or its erstwhile alternative product (aka "competitor";) in the market, Texture Maker? I'm trying to think of some others here.

Fudge! It took me YEARS to get good at making this stuff by hand! Now it's all automated?

Don't mind me. I'll be over here with the buggy whip makers.

So now I'm a fat buggy whip maker.

A great collection of fudge, chocolate, and other confectionary goodies would be most welcome.

Speaking of wood textures:

Eye Candy 5: Textures

has a very nice wood texture generator along with snake, lizard skin, fur, brick, and stone. Of course it's $100 more than Wood Workshop and requires Photoshop. [edit] Oh it also works with PSP. :)

Hook me up with where to buy the food textures and you've got it, Torley. All kidding aside, a fudge shoppe reminiscent of Michigan's Mackinac Island is what I'm looking to add to The Boardwalk at Cincta as a countpart to my diner there. So does anyone specialize in food textures here?

Are there any more recommendations for seamless texture-creation programs? Are there more affordable or free standalone ones on the market? As I mentioned earlier, Genetica 2 and Texture Maker look to be the big ones. It's a market with a lot of usage so I can imagine there's tons more obscure stuff which is quality nonetheless.

I've seen the output of this program and it's not the most "realistic", and requires some grime and tweaking to get results that fit in if you're aiming for photorealism as opposed to a cartoon. It's nice what it can do though.

Ah! Serious question, and a good one: well I know that more food textures would come VERY much in handy for inworld foodmakers eh? You have some items created by Karamel's Kitchen I believe in your StarLight diner -- I don't know where she got her textures but there's a lot of delicious stuff to go around. I also liked the texture Baki used for his watermelon dish. ;)

No, no, no... You need burlap for underwear!

As to tileable food, I forget who originaly posted this (I just bookmarked the link), but here's some luncheon meat...

bonus points for the first person to make a hampartment with goldfish cracker floors. crunchy! that wood texture program is pretty good but a lil bit slow and just my opinion but they textures look more arty than realistic not that that's a bad thing.

One of my SL pet peeves has always been seams on textures. Now anyone using a wood finish has no excuse! :D

Robin Sojourner does a good job with food textures. I recall a very yummy looking gingerbread house with oreo cookie chairs and sofa, and a peppermint tile walkway. :) Try sending her an IM in-world.

Oh yes, definitely. In the case of the Eye Candy plugs, they're simulators. They're not using anything photo-realistic as a source so you tend to get very clean output. The wood texture filter really simulates wood knots and grains. You can also add board tiling and make things seamless, but results vary.

Of the set I probably use the Texture Noise filter the most -- it's a very nice noise generator with some a good selection of settings. You can also do some really fun stuff with the Animal Fur, Weave, and Reptile Skin filters.

But Torley is right, they're better better suited for providing raw materials for creating your own textures, rather than instantly generating realistic seamless ones.

Attaching a shot of some of the Wood settings. :)
