Hi Everyone - I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the problem I am having. I have opened the SL_male in BodyPaint 3D so I can learn how to texture in 3D. However, when I open the SL_Male. obj up it looks very rough. Is there a way I can make him look smooth so I can start learning how to texturing on him? I also tried putting him in Cinema 4D and see what he would look like in there but he opens up the same way. Any help would be appreciated. I have attached a .jpg of what he looks like when I open him up in BodyPaint.

Hmmm, odd. Looks like BodyPaint is either importing the model with unique vertices for every polygon (in other words none of the polys are welded together) or that there's no texture smoothing. Since 3d objects are faceted (made of all flat planes), polygons are usually rendered with a gradient from poly to poly which gives the illusion of smooth curved surfaces. When I import .obj files into 3ds Max I always have to apply smoothing to it. I've never used BodyPaint so I can't offer any help on how to do it in that program, but I'd search the help file for "smoothing" or "smoothing groups." Also, I recently converted the SL_Male avatar from .obj to .3ds for someone else. You might try loading that instead. You can find it at the bottom of this thread: /109/f4/32414/2.html

Thx Chip. I did import the 3ds file and it looked much better. I have attached a snapshop of the import. Im going to keep looking for a smooth feature. Im sure it has one.

Glad that worked for you. Both of the obj models are in 4 or 5 parts so not all the vertices are welded. If I get time later today I'll weld them all on both male and female and upload a zip of them in 3ds format.

The female does not open the same way if you use the one called SL_avatar_OBJ. I have inserted the screenshot. Funny thing if you go down into the SL Avatar folder where the male and female are and opne the female from there it looks like the male.

I smoothed out the SL_Male found in the download by using hypernurbs in Cinema 4D. I saved and attached as an .obj file so if anyone else is using BodyPaint you can grab the male from here.

Thanks for the help Chip. I had to smooth the SL_Male out by opening it in Cinema 4D and using HyperNurbs.
