Ok, I have some menswear coming out in the next couple of days, but after it's out I need to start on making more. So, what kinds of garments would you like to see? My pet theory is that there is more female clothing IW because its just more interesting to create. Thats a restriction we bring with us from the RL, but here it doesnt have to be so. However, being female, I have little appreciation for what yous guys LIKE in your clothing- thus question 2. How can I make your clothing interesting? For example: colors you want to see, assymetry in garments (alas, count the sleeves out with that one, template mirrors them), what kinds of fabrics and materials, what genre or style you prefer, ect. Really, any insight would be incredibly helpful. Thanks!! Nephi PS: what would be EXTRA extra helpful would be links to examples of outfits that you like, should you happen to have any lying about. Im looking less for something to copy, and more something to be inspired by- so anything will work. game shots, art, even vehicles and weapons, anything that you can look at and say "this aspect is cool, do something with it."

From: someone My pet theory is that there is more female clothing IW because its just more interesting to create. My theory is that you are absolutely correct. In the offline world it's the same way. Menswear is boring because men are largely boring to look at. There's a world of variety in women's fashion but for guys: slacks, shirt (buttondown or pullover), shoes. Jeans and t-shirt. Blah. What's my ideal? International Male. Hehe, just kidding (well, they have a few non-ridiculous items). I like a kind of sloppy dress style: retro-casual suit, shirt unbuttoned, loose tie, shirttails out, sleeves rolled up, scuffed Beatle boots, that kind of thing. Picture some of the nicer Kenneth Cole duds after being slept in. Edwardian punk (sorry, no pics). The nerdy sweatervest could be cool with that special Nephilaine treatment.

I always thought I'd like to see the whole range: beachwear casual normal casual wear (jeans & t-shirts) dating casual (jeans or slacks and polo shirts or stylish button-downs) business casual (not much different from dating casual, but more professional looking in the colors and patterns) business attire (shirt & tie) full-blown two- and three-piece business suits (double-breasted for me, please) tuxes trench coats and/or dusters cowboy boots cowboy hats country/western style button-down shirts (think Garth Brooks) some of these exist, to one degree or another in-world, but with little variety. Unfortunately, it's impossible to separate a shirt and tie into two separate textures, or a suit jacket from a vest. And it's my understanding that it's virtually impossible to make decent-looking footware. :-/

I hope no one takes offense to this...
But I'd really like to see some clothing made for the "younger" generations of males in Second Life. Polo, sweaters, plaid and jumpsuits just don't fit Daemioth. And as noted in a previous thread, there are a lot of college age males in Second Life--if they have any sense of style (I don't, to be perfectly honest) they'd be interested in a new line of clothing, too.
International Male is not bad clothing, by the way, heh.
I can look for more specifics online if you want? Though I know my age group is not the majority in SL...

Anything Ben Sherman- or Prada-esque... Kenneth Cole. Anything I'd wear in real life but can't reasonably afford.
More grunge and slackware. Accessories. Hats, hoods, man-bags (aka the European Carryall), suspenders, iPods. Realistic glasses and sunglasses. Scarves. Army boots. Kilts. Shirts tied around the waist. Belts.
Colours could be anything. I'm partial to boring earth tones and variations of gray, but that's just me. Boring.

Denim and plaid shirts. Casual jackets that are open in the front to still show your shirt. Shirts with collars. Baggy, sporty, swimsuits, minus the tropical prints. Business casual type stuff.
I think, with men, something else to think about is functional clothes. The favorite shirt I have, I can wear it in a variety of ways because I can edit the sleeve lenght and tint it different colors.
I really liked that set of clothes you made on your site that Rathe modelled. I could see myself wearing stuff like that probably. Maybe a line similar to that, but somehow a little more casual. Make sense?

GRRRR....i made a nice long post about all kidns of things and by the time i was done my session timed out and POOF...all gone. I am at work and can't take much mroe time...but here's it in a nutshell: More men's Casual formal attire, and suits. Best example i can give is here: Giorgio Armani's site (it's a flash site so i can't direct link but look under the Armani Collezioni section for men...id purchasae almost every single outfit shown there!!!) there is plenty of Jeans, tshirts, and very casual attire around SL. I absolutely love Yuki's second style for edgy/urban wear...but often find my wardrobe lacking anything semi formal or worthy of a ngiht out in the city where i dwell (im eagerly anticipating you taking this on since i have a place next to your Barcola location) Feel free to IM me IW if you have any other questions, want constructive criticism on designs, or need a good lookin maniquin ~Jay

Oh...one other thing in my original post was more shoes! Im a big fan of Kennteth Cole and Steve Madden...and some more undergamrents, like silk boxers and boxer briefs (im getting tired of having the same 3 pieces) I also second the notion of more Ben Sherman, Prada etc too as Zero mentioned. I would like to see your style for women's attire be carried into men's...there is no shortage of jeans, t shirts, and bermuda shorts. i can always spot a neph outfit without even asking and i think some of your style could easily carry into men's fahsion successfully.

How about some shirts like Jack is wearing in this pic. With more details like buttons, some wrinkles and cuffs. The collar and sleeves are attachments and may be the only way to get this effect.

Personally, I favor bright, bold geometrics. I'm pretty much insterested in all categories - formal, casual, beachware, sports wear, etc.

Well, for me, I tend toward Goth, punk, an fetish with alot of leather, latex and fishnet. But to be perfectly honest, anything male oriented in your line of clothing would be very welcome. I truly am tired of shopping for clothes just to have to go through 27 different vendors of women's clothes to find one with 3 types of jeans for guys. *sigh* So I thank you in advance, Nef, for your efforts Morte

I try to make some interesting menswear, but it's hard.
It really isa case of womenswear being much more interesting to make.

Thanks for starting this thread, Neph! Helps all designers. It's hard to make stuff without feedback from customers. I'm not entirely sure menswear isn't as interesting. I've no shortage of ideas for funky tees, pants with little embellishments, patterned shirts, jackets and sci-fi/urban inspired goodies. Even my womenswear isn't dainty and lacey, and a lot of it works for either gender. I find that's the happy median. One thing that's hard to get past is people say, "Oh, well that's women's." just because it was photographed on a woman. I think that's a very odd conception people have. When fit is not an issue, what makes something exclusively female or male? I mean, if the pants aren't lowrise and have some kind of floral or lace pattern, it could easily work on a guy. Same goes for shirts. Just because a t-shirt is photographed on a woman, doesn't mean it will only work on a woman. Doesn't matter too much what the designer intended, even. Once it's applied to a male av, if it doesn't have aforementioned frills and such, who can tell whether it was 'intended' for a woman or a man? The exception of course being skirts and club shirts. But I think jeans and leather pants and tops without plunging necklines and 'girly' colours could work for men too. Free your mind, and your shopping choices will expand dramatically! ...but, please keep the suggestions coming. Heh. Be a voice, men! The designers will create if the demand is identified!

Re: GUYS! A survey just for you.

Oh, this is great, we need more original and attractive men's clothing! One of the things I'd suggest is a few outfits that complement your popular womens wear lines, so that couples will look great together when they are out on the sim. Another thing is that we have a lot of formal wear and suits and they all could be vastly improved on. A morning suit for weddings and a white dinner jacket would be great; I don't think Ive seen either. Maybe some vaguely historical styles, like you'd see in a Maetterlink play or Shakespeare - as well as things more likely to be found on a space station. There are a bunch of jeans and things like that, already, but there really isn't much of a selection of just nice plain casual shirts, say like the madras or silk camp shirts that Tommy Bahama and Joseph Banks do so nicely. From: someone Originally posted by Nephilaine Protagonist Ok, I have some menswear coming out in the next couple of days, but after it's out I need to start on making more.

what I notice many men wearing: mostly subdued earth tones, some warmer colors, purples reds blues but never usually bright bright. Guys dont tend to wear a lot of prints either or show too much skin (in general). Most men preffer function over form, sturdy clothes are more valuable then flashy clothes except for formal, nice solid sweaters, jeans, courderoy, leather. We seem to have a lot of pants and shirts... what guys really need more of is outerware... especially COATS any coats... long coats short coats formal coats grungey messed up trench coats... whatever. sweaters, hoodies, heavy plaid overshirts (think seattle grunge). Most men dont wear clothing very tight except occasionally in pants. Hope my two cents helps out.

I would love to see more turn-of-the-century style gentlemen's attire. Think Jules Verne. That's kind of the style thing I have going on right now. I have a beige suit that everyone has seen me wear but the most frequent comment I receive is that it looks like I'm naked from the back. If anyone wants to custom make me an outfit in this style, I'm ready to pay you.

A lot of posts here suggest things that most guys wear in real life, and let's face it, in SL if you have one white shirt (or t-shirt, poloshirt, etc), you can color it to whatever color you want that day, and it's a whole boring male wardrobe... Grunge style and fetish suggestions would be welcome though. Personally I'd like to see any more adventerous clothing, that I prob would never consider wearing out the house in real life. I'm thinking unusual tailoring, maybe Gaultier or similar (although i've never been sold on the men in skirts idea ). I'm sure to buy some of whatever you make anyway Neph, quality and different mens clothing does seem hard to come by.

Neph, I'm so glad that you're going to do something for the guys! The Twentieth Century of men's clothes seems to have squeezed them all into military derived uniforms and derivatives of industrial work clothing! Looking at historical paintings, men were peacocks of wonderful imagination until the Industrial Revolution hit them! I wish and hope that enough men would like to see themselves garbed as Beau Brummel, Thomas Jefferson, Charles II & I, Henry VIII, Louis XIV, the Dukes of Saxony, a Medici of Renaissance era, a Pharoah, a Centurion, a Trojan, and so on. (I love to see a well-turned male leg), In the hopes that unadorned cool masculinity will heat up again, Govi

Planet Mars- Gaultier. Yes. He did some great stuff in City of Lost Children.
I'd actually like to see more of what Govindira loathes- industrial-wear. Bring it on! Dirty overalls, baggy jumpsuits, safety boots, caps, cropped jackets. I'm wearing a vintage UPS delivery-dude jacket as I write this.
Excuse me, ma'am can you sign for this atomic bomb?
