I'm pretty happy with Second Life. There are a few things that irk me about it, but I could proabably say that about anything

I've got no problem with them.
I wouldn't call them perfect either, but their world is definitely meeting my overall expectations (and then some!) so far. _____________________

SL is good, It's got me hooked, and it's hard to keep me happy. It's not perfect, it has it's flaws like everything else. But generally... Good.

And when I do, I'm not going to create a 50 paragraph essay about the problem and why it's ruining my life. Some people totally disregard and take for granted all the good things about this game, and just target the bad. It's kinda like a Hot Pocket. Mmm Mmm I love hot pockets. They're great. But everytime I cook one for the 2 minutes posted on the box, it's too hot too eat, hot isn't even a good adjective. It's plasmatic. But you know what I do? Let it cool off, and enjoy it. I don't write a 50 page essay on the Hot Pocket message boards about how it ruined my life. Josh Latrell. Seems to me this thread is more about you feeling superior to other people and disparaging them than it is about Second Life. _____________________

SecondLife is: a wonderland for digital artists a bizarre new frontier for entrepreneurs a slightly different way to find and play with communities of interest a curious way for friends (and couples) to stay in touch over large distances a medium for aspiring game developers to play a relaxing and fun way to just fritter away time and spare change a game to some people and a seriously useful environment to others both a wave and a particle and so many other things... That Linden Labs manges to provide something that is so many things to so many different people is just flat out amazing. (I've been actively online for 25 years... and have never seen anywhere such a diverse spectrum of people in a single environment.) Do I have "Problems" with Linden Labs? NO! My wishlist may be long and I have many many minor complaints... but I think Linden Labs does an outstanding job of trying to stick to what's important despite the staggering number of conflicting demands we make. If *I* were Linden Labs... I'd be so tired of the mewling whining and ungrateful bickering that goes on that I'd probably just take my server farm and go home in a huff! =) Or, phrased more positively: Thank you Linden Labs for perservering as our our gracious hosts, despite all the annoying kvetching that goes on! Three Cheers for Linden Labs! =) -- Utopia wouldn't work because there some people are natural fixers, complainers, exploiters, etc.... A disfunctional world creates networks of needs. It gives people a sense of place and identity where they have value and purpose. (or reason to complain about the lack of value and purpose. ![]() |

Well, I've stuck up for LL at several points in the past so it should be no surprise that I would add my voice to the chorus here. Sure, they're not perfect, but no business is (or ANY assemblage of human beings in the whole history, for that matter). Considering the scale and level of difficulty of what they are attempting, I think they've done a remarkable job. There have been other attempts at similar things in the past but SL is the first of its kind. It's hard to always make the right decisions every time when you have zero precedents upon which to base those decisions.
That's why the "whiners" have always gotten on my nerves. I understand that they have had to deal with a frustration in some way or that they have lost money, but most of the time I'm left with the feeling that they have only considered their own current woes without giving the slightest thought to the overall complexity of any given problem. It is my belief that decisions concerning grid-wide welfare are not made lightly or by single individuals. I think most decisions that people have taken issue with in the past were carefully considered at a table surrounded by college graduates and logical thinkers. It is my belief that these people saw most of these complaints far in advance and made these tough decisions anyway because, lacking a crystal ball, they believed it would have an overall positive impact in the end. You're welcome to call me naive on any or all of these points but you certainly can't call me a n00b. I do have a fairly early join date which apparently adds credibility in the minds of some... Just call me a fanboy if it makes your life easier...or the antiProk. Yeah, that has a nice ring to it. ![]() Persig |

Or, phrased more positively: Thank you Linden Labs for perservering as our our gracious hosts, despite all the annoying kvetching that goes on! I could just Cut and Paste your comment, Jopsy - that is almost exactly how I feel about LL, too. Just the fact that SL even works at all is amazing - and to be continually improving and expanding while trying to keep all the existing uses happy? chaos - wonderful, creative, shiny chaos. ![]() |

I no longer hold a negative opinion of Linden Lab because Robin sent me a personal mail saying I was no longer allowed to.

I do have those years and I agree with the OP. I agree with and endorse this statement... *Looks at her join date...* And as a "mature" resident myself, I also might mention I have no issues with LL or SL that I could not also level at any other company or product. I speak as both a social user of this virtual reality simulator and as a content provider. *shrug* But I also realize that for many people, the more they are given, the more they want and the more they complain. The closer any product is to our expectation, the more the last remaining deviancy seems to bug the hell out of us. I simply have enough age and perspective to realize such tendancies and counter then with a dose of "shut my arse up." =P _____________________

I can't remember any other activity that's made me so willing to be inconvenienced for my pleasure (e.g. staying up very late). Not since I stood by my tv set holding up an aerial for hours so I could watch Der Ring des Nibelungen.

It's been more than two years for me and I'm just as smitten with SL as the first day I started. And better yet, the future only looks brighter! I'm simply happy I found SL when I did and have no intention of leaving. Hell, first life isn't perfect so why would I expect second life to be without flaws?
I still find content and people in SL that amaze me. A big thanks to all the Lindens for creating this world and continuing to do your best to improve our in-world experiences. angel |

Personally, I do not see what all the "hate posts" are all about. LL is entitled to run things the way they see fit and I think they are doing an excellent job. Then again, I do not have thouasands of $$$ invested in them either so I just cannot walk a mile in thoes shoes.

I have no problem with LL. My husband's not perfect either. But what a wonderful coincidence! - nor am I. Nothing in life is. Right? This very basic fact is lost on a lot of people. Thanks for posting that. I shudder to think where the world would be today, if uber-whiners were prevalent during REAL crises the human race has faced in it's history. Thank the stars for progress eh? It allows us to sit around on our fat asses on the internet and whine about "injustice" or better yet, "injustices" that might happen in an online setting. I am sure the millions of souls who perished in the World Wars, so we could have the ability (just one result of their sacrifices) to recreate on computers TODAY, are so proud of us! ![]() _____________________

Very nice to see some positive stuff!
I love being in SL! (uh-oh, commercial!) Before I discovered SL, quite by accident, I didnt do much on the internet. I hated chat rooms filled with whiney, angsty teens. Porn? Yea, seen it, been there.... But you can only see so many Up-Close-More-Than-You-Wish-Insert-The-Foreign-Object-Into-That-Orfice pics before you get bored with it. Now I have Online Friends... again!! One's that dont end up asking "So what are you wearing?" The only Money I can lose is virtual! Yet I could make real money with it. I can build things! I can, if I was good at it, Script those things to do something!! I could buy/sell property that doesnt exist! OR- Do none of it & just hang out, talk to people, see what others have done. So much to see!! Unlike Online Games, I dont have to shoot someone. I don't have to go on "quests" to make myself better. In SL, we're all on the same playing field. Just depends on where you're strengths lie & how much you want to put into doing something new. People whine, bitch & Moan about many lil' niggling things In-World. So? Software ALWAYS has a problem. None of it is perfect!! This is something rather new so it's bound to have a few more bugs than say, Windows ME. ![]() So Patience IS a virtue here. New technologies take time to iron out the bugs and to improve. (end of commercial) THERE!!! That beats 50 paragraphs of whining, yes? ![]() _____________________
