From: Iron Perth ... and Microsoft sounds like they're moving rapidly into this space. I thought the same when the features of XBox 360 were announced - the Virtual Marketplace in particular. Only I've not heard much in the meantime and I read some developer comments about a month ago that has me thinking MS is strangling their own system in an effort to fully control the market. If you've heard some good news lately, I'd very much like to hear of it.

The thing is, I personally feel while the Metaverse will become widely used, it will still not become the "standard" like the Internet has and will be I do not feel in our lifetimes (But I don't know). There is a bright future with the Metaverse, it will be exciting, but I don't think it will permeate everything
I can think of two reasons off the top of my head.
Many people do not care for virtual avatars or being in a virtual world, they just want simple functionality. While a more "three dimensional" Internet will probably emerge, such as three dimensional viewing of products being allowed (like on most car sites), I don't think the Metaverse will be fully embraced for awhile.
The Third World, and much of the rest of the world is still catching up with the Internet though they are. A Metaverse requires some good computers though.
