Why... the fuck... is GodMode even part of the standard client? It's not like Phillip is going to come visit my house and need to use my PC to check his IMs or rain sulphur and fire on the unworthy.

I think they should fix it ASAP. I've had 10+ objects affected maliciously by this today.

You should feel lucky that it is only 10, I'm afraid I have over 100 objects affected by this.

I also had a whole store returned with the last bug. I suspect it is unscrupulous competition who has targeted me.

So this is already out, and it IS being used maliciously. Although for now it seems with carefully selected targets, obviously to avoid that the exploit gets closed down quickly. It will only get worse, and it should be fixed before any major damage is done.

Hi everyone, and thanks to Ano, Cali, and many others who emailed me about this thread. I checked info behind-the-scenes and this sounds like something which has *already* been resolved and is included in tomorrow's Second Life update. To be sure, I'm going to ask Brent and Phoenix Linden. Just wanted to post ASAP.

Hmm. I have a lot of scripts out there, some not owned by me and outside of my control. I spent months working on a few of them, weeks on others. Should I be concerned about damage to the scripts, the objects which contain them, or theft of one or the other?

Those who do that are rewarded with suspensions.
No, some seem to get away with doing things that others are sanctioned for doing, which is a big problem, along with sanctioning unfairly!

The exploit does not allow the scripts to be stolen. It may cause items to not function properly though.

This is affecting me as well.

At first I was pulling my hair out (and I have a lot of it) trying to figure out why this was happening.

I'm just glad its being taken care of tommorow.

Because it's easier to have it as part of the main client than to have to write two separate packages every time there's an update.

Wouldn't it be easy to check so that that menu only gets enabled when running from linden labs? or when the login user has a last name of Linden?

I agree with you - I am amazed that this thread has been left wide open, with discussions of the exploit and warnings on how to protect yourself against it. Sound familiar? . I don't want to see anyone get in trouble, but honestly this thread is a gigantic piece of fucking hypocrisy. I am not the slightest bit surprised though, as discipline is completely arbitrary and has nothing to do with the TOS.

My official position is: STOP WHINING. Seriously. Injustice, etc, etc. It's done. Finished. You served your 3 days, right or wrong.

Not happy about Linden Labs purchase of XStreet (formerly SLX) and OnRez. Will this mean LL will ban resident run online shoping outlets in favor of their own?

It isn't about me - I don't care about my suspension - what I care about is how arbitrarily people are disciplined - no one should be, that is the point. You don't have one set of rules for one group of people, and another set for another, or because one particular employee has a bug up their ass about a person and give another person a free pass to do the same. It should be applied fairly, or not at all. I could give a shit care what your official position is.

I assumed doggystyle, so I am glad that he cleared that up for us.

The difference, Cris, might be in who ARs you. That's the best I can come up with, and it sucks.

It could be the collective crying after the last case actually made the LL re-consider their position on this issue. So if they get slammed now for 'learning the lesson' and *not* banning people as being hypocrites because they didn't do again something they've been slammed before... yeah, that'll make them really perceptive to community complaints in the future.

Why bother when it's damned when you do and damned when you don't? :/

In principle I agree that dicipline is not handled the way it should be by LL.

The other thread(s) though, I'm not saying your post, Cris, described how to do it, and exactly what would happen. And there was no way to protect yourself from it, unless you closed your land area completely.

This thread does not say exactly how the exploit is done, or what happens.

But more importantly, it warns and gives a fix on how you can protect yourself from it while we wait for LL to patch it.

Remember also, that there are some people going around attacking carefully selected targets. Or else I would never have noticed it. This exploit is being used with malicious intent as we speak.

If some of the posters in this thread is given a 3-day ban, it is unfair yes, just like your ban was Cris, but so be it. I think it is more important to avoid serious damage by going out with a warning and a temp fix, than letting it continue happening. I have hundreds of customers, maybe even in the thousands that can get in serious trouble if they are targeted. I have no way to warn all of them one by one. I know the risk, but I also know I did the right thing.
