Greetings. Im fairly new to SL and enjoy the picture taking options. I love to take pictures in RW and SL This place has so many creative and cool things that I thought to document my time here and post them on http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/I was approched by someone that possibly it is a form of hijacking or taking without someones permission. Im not a designer, just a avie who likes to shop and take pictures. Im not out to offend anyone. When posting to snapzilla the viewer of the pic has the option to teleport to that area. Someone thinks its nice they might want to see it for themselves. It was not my intention to break any rules. This is the first time someone has said anything to me. Any suggestions? thanks Carmilla

Never heard of it being a problem before. There are lots of blogs out there documenting people's wanderings through SL. If you take photos of people, it's courtesy to get permission before publishing, but not places. That's just silly.

Carmilla, I love that pic you posted. It's a refreshing change from the "Hey look at us, we're dancing w000tzz!" pics that generally populate Snapzilla. Keep it up. To me, courtesy is really nothing more than common sense. If you're in someone's private home, it would be good to ask their permission before uploading the picture (in view of the teleport option). The same with any personal moments, like a couple cuddling. But out in the greater world of SL? Go for it. Take some random trips with your Find menu, look for forests, elves, cities (Las Vegas and New Orleans, among others, are represented in SL), and Dragons! Oh, the Dragons! (Go to the Limbo sim and see for yourself!) I'll be watching for your future efforts. Illegitimi Non Carborundum, baby!

here is my suggestion, if its not a public place like a store or such, just send them to private@slpics.com. However... in rl as a photographer you have legal rights to take photos. It may surprise you what you can legally take photos of. Take a look http://www.krages.com/ThePhotographersRight.pdfIn SL... if the only problem is that tp option that you are coming across I'd stick with the above suggestion. Im not sure what, if any, legal right we have to take pictures in SL, plus its just polite not to take pictures if someone asks. ill stop by and take a look at your pics, im photo crazy myself

Im snap happy myself... but anyone who starts getting uppity that you take snaps of there AVATAR in a VIDEO GAME.. like its some kind of an intrusion of privacy needs there bloody heads looked at... also.. if the Slurl works on the bottom of the picture then the sim is set as public.. which in my head would mean visitors welcome.. I really dont see the need for the Privacy@slpics.. infact.. I recall its used so little that Cristiano commented on a pic about the fact that it was used..

Someone thinks its nice they might want to see it for themselves. It was not my intention to break any rules. This is the first time someone has said anything to me. Any suggestions? thanks Carmilla There's a big fuss among people like the hair & clothes designers right now, about TEXTURE THEFT -- what they don't understand is that the program people are using to do this does not require them to take a snapshot -- all someone using it need to do is be close enough for an object to rez completely... thus putting the texture into the computer's cache, which the user can then access later. They also don't want to be told/reminded that most textures in SL are all stolen ANYWAY, but as I'm currently writing an editorial on that for my website, I'll just drop that observation and exit stage right. Taking a screenshot of ANYTHING in SL is not a violation of any kind unless you are using the new camera tricks to violate someone's privacy (like inside their house or private "playpen" . Don't worry about it, and keep taking your snaps, hon.

I use it when I am on my Master's land or somewhere private (hence the private@slpics *giggles*) out of respect for people.

I have an underground area with a few friends sharing tier and the other day someone landed on our 'roof', and ran the camera trick to start snapping pictures of us. No 'Hi, that's cool down there, may I snap a few?" Nothing, not an IM, not a please, just, snap snap through the walls. This person is now banned. Maybe I'm blind, but can anyone show a TOS fragment that states this sort of intrusion is worthy of an AR? I'd rather not add to sim lag with a defense system if I can get away with it. ~Kami

I honestly dont blame you for the ban and i dont know of any section in the TOS that says this is wrong.

When we saw another green dot over us we swung our cameras up and there she was, either taking pics through the ground or of the rather boring grass texture. (Yeah right.) One of my roomies IMed, but it took 24 hours of group deliberation before we took a ban action. A 'Hi, may I drop in and see what you're up to?' would more often than not have resulted in a yes, welcome. Manners manners manners >.> ~Kami, not too worried about it, just curious about TOS

When we saw another green dot over us ... ive never seen a green dot, but i didnt really look either, does that mean wherever the picture is being taken a green dot appears? you must have been really exciting to have pictures taken of you!

From: Dhalia Unsung ive never seen a green dot, but i didnt really look either, does that mean wherever the picture is being taken a green dot appears? *laughs* The minimap dear, the minimap. From: Dhalia Unsung you must have been really exciting to have pictures taken of you! *cough* Well, it didn't involve sex pose balls but our builds are pretty strange. But research says: From: someone 4.1 You agree to abide by certain rules of conduct, including the Community Standards and other rules prohibiting illegal and other practices that Linden Lab deems harmful. You agree to read and comply with the Community Standards posted on the Websites, (for users 18 years of age and older, at http://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php; and for users of the Teen Area, at http://teen.secondlife.com/footer/cs), as currently posted and as amended from time to time in Linden Lab's sole discretion. In addition to abiding at all times by the Community Standards, you agree that you shall not: (x) "stalk", abuse or attempt to abuse, or otherwise harass another user. That's not super helpful unless it's -clearly communicated- to said person who's making the photographic subject uncomfortable. I don't know, maybe it merits a poll, is snapping pictures of the goings on in a private residence without permission 'harassment'? It looks to me that the responsibility lands on the land owners to communicate an expected code of conduct to visitors. We'll think of something for our little underground complex/sandbox. ~Kami

In the case of hair, I believe most (probably all) the big designers use textures they made. A very close friend in SL makes hair, and I know her textures were all handpainted by another friend (who happens to be a professional graphic artist and texture designer) So while the bulk of textures in SL are probably stolen or from legal free-use archives I don't think that holds for the textures used by the high-end content creators.
