First Land Rip-off - Beware!

I bought my First Land yesterday, a nice little rectangle of grassland, all my own, to do with as I please :)

Later a guy IMed me and offered me $1500 for my land. I had already noticed his little signs all over the First Land area, lots for sale for $5000 a go.

I asked him why he wanted to buy my land, he said because it was a nice plot.

I pointed out that he would resell it, and that it was immoral to offer so little, he said others offered less and business was business.

Please, please, can some sort of warning be offered to First Land purchasers to check the current land prices BEFORE accepting this sort of offer.

I would have been very upset to sell my land only to be unable to afford anything else.

Does any part of the following thread look familar to you? In my opinion, it represents karma in action.

I would be too - thats why when I offer to buy out a neighbour in Gallinas I try to offer above and beyond the current market price of the land - at least to give them enough to give them an edge at getting new land should they want that.

Glad you weren't duped.

When i saw a Land Baron dropping his signs in a new sim (and getting First Land sales of a mere $1500L - $2000L) i got so peeved i made this sign:

http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=35523

and dropped them next to his.
It got me AR'd and an enemy to boot.

Best thing to do is just pass the word, and don't buy land from Robber Barons.

Moss.. that is a great sign!! Hopefully there was no action taken against the AR. Informing a newbie on how not to be ripped off should not be against the TOS. Especially if people who do this get no action taken against them.

I personally do no like paying these people's wages, so I refuse to buy land anymore. My suggestion to anyone wanting land is to rent. No absurd upfront prices and you actually do get a service for the tier that you pay.

Nice sign Moss, just one thing wrong,
your blurb in slexch says full perms, unfortunately that's not so
the one i just recieved fromthere is NOCOPY, NOMOD.

Yeah I know it's free, but now I cant give it friends, can give url though :)
Cant duplicate it as many times as I need, can buy enough for now though :)

Whoa. Those damn perms get me everytime. I always forget to change those.
I'm off to fix them right away - everyone who bought one will get a full perm version - though i'm sure i'm in no danger of accusation since they're free anyhow :)

A silly precaution... if the $L takes a real dip, you don't want robber barons setting that sign of yours out when first land is going for $L 10,000!

Might want to put a date on it... :)

I'm not too worried about the Linden economy. We've got plenty of canaries in this coal mine.
I can't imagine folks like Anshe letting the Lab devalue her 'holdings' as much as that.
