But hey, they said 68k of ram should be enough for everyone, right?

The common myth is that Bill Gates said, back in the early 80s, that "640K should be enough memory for anybody." The problem is, Bill Gates never actually said that.

Also, even if he had, he would have been taking credit for something that wasn't his doing. Intel used a hybrid memory system in their 8086 processor that allowed them to combine two 16-bit registers into an external 20-bit memory address space. Thus Intel was able to give the processor access to 1024k of memory for what was effectively a 16-bit processor, minus about 300k for memory-mapped hardware address space such as video cards and BIOS, and whatnot. (Hence the 640k typically available to DOS.)

Intel probably did this because adding true 32-bit registers would have been (during that time) a waste of silicon. This limitation was a part of the processor even before QDOS (later to be purchased and renamed MS-DOS) came around.

Well. If they're not adding features, it's not really worth a sacrifice.
Damnit. Damnit. My fault for counting on emails.

Well... we can ask for some help on the asset thing, I guess.
Purging the 189k unused accounts would help.

What I find interesting is that when I first heard the myth in the mid 80's, it was not attributed to Bill Gates, but to someone in IBM ( I forget who) and it was suposedly in answer to a question about if IBM was going to upgrade the processor in the PC.

It was probably Al Gore when he was inventing the PC prior to going on to inventing teh internets.

Could be, wouldn't be the first time IBM has made some bogus statements. ("I think there is a world market for maybe five computers," said Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM in 1943.) :D

Was this the prototype truck-based internets or the newer, improved series-of-tubes model?

I don't think they'd discovered tubes then... and come on, it's pronounced "you-tubes"

nono we HAVE to have a ritual sacrifice before each new update. And we have to advertise it and make it a big thing. How else will the fundamentalists get word of all those pagans doing sacrificial sexxors in that second life demon thing and then get all upset about it?

kk. Well, we sure need to ask for some salvation w/ the asset server. Maybe Phillip can die for our sins. (of making too much crap).

*by die, I mean have his AV burned at the stake. Don't worry, you'll be okay.

Dude, a Phillip crucifiction would be so sacreligious that Pat Robertson's head would explode. I love the idea, count me in.

I don't think my FIC credentials would allow me to get him. I suppose we can [Edited by Phillip: For Shame!] and get him to come that way, but getting him on the stake would still be tricky.
