Taking profits away from business is not an effective means of fixing the economy, in fact It probably does more harm than good by reducing confidence.
Weedy...

I don't think one in a hundred residents even knows about the business you're in, and maybe nine out of ten of the ones who do rate its value maybe higher than camping chair operators and people who resell freebies at yard sales. Most people's confidence is going to be raised by the idea of wiping out a bunch of profiteers. The fact that you weren't operating at "gutter level" is great, but it doesn't change the fact that many people were.

And if I recall the thread correctly, Andrew mentioned a number of options, including the possibility of selling abandoned parcels for the average price per square foot. He also discussed distributing some of the receipts to the original owner, and giving neighboring landowners first crack on small parcels. You can't just pick one comment out of context like that.

How did it used to work - Prior to the change ?

Say- I abandoned a piece of land because it had been for sale for eons and I was really wanting to tier down and billing cycle was going to kick in again.

So said piece of land is abandoned.....

Weedy's Land scanners pick it up as public - Did they get to swoop in and claim it for Free ?
(- then sell it to the next guy who then sold itto the next guy)

I would eat my hat (if I had one) if that didn't happen in the forseeable future. Seems like an obvious 'next', to me.

Opinion:

Indeed they will, and get a cut off of all the sales. Which will make the other shopping sites rather moot.

Or, SLBoutique could just go in on it with LL. Leaving only the other shopping sites rather moot.

For L$1 per square meter, like it was First Land.
