I'm wandering how many have suffered this today. It's definatly not just me. Today i've been disconnected nearly 10 times. Most of those it refuses to let me log back in, and the SL website/forums act like they are offline too. Like the servers all went down at once or my IP got blocked for some odd reason. It's not my internet connection. Google's still browses, and my messengers are still working.
A few times today i came back on and found out my surrounding friends also got the boot. I bug reported a minute ago. I see no info on the forums reguarding it so i'm very puzzled. It's getting extremly unbearable and making it impossible to enjoy SL. I can't even leave the keyboard without coming back to find i'm red-mapped. This computer is directly connected to a cable broadband modem so there is no router messing it up. I firmly believe it's on the lindens end.

You are not alone

I have had the same problem today as well. I am typing away and nothing appears on the screen, so I disconnect thinking its bad lag. I then have problems logging back in. In fact the last time I logged in it said the whole site was down and I couldn't even get www.secondlife.con to work. I even rebooted. So you are not alone.

I kept thinking my connection was dropping out, which it rarely does, and was restarting a lot... then I tried some Google searches and other sites, and found it was only the SL sites.

I thought it was just me being logged out of Cordova and Goguen at half-hour intervals.

I just got dumped AGAIN this morning at a most inopportune time. And I could not log into the forums for the 3-4 minutes it takes to be able to get back into SL. What really bugs me is that this was reported several times yesterday, not just by me but by many others and there has not been a word from Lindens. Not a peep. Not even a "we're looking into it". And, like you, I've seen entire sims just stop talking to the client, forcing restart. I nearly uninstalled/reinstalled but seeing that it's not just me, I'm blaming the SL servers. I wonder if there hasn't been some kind of DOS attack that's screwing things up? But I'm guessing. I'm not sitting in the Linden IT chair watching the monitors. I hope SOMEBODY is.

I researched this a bit. Any internet connections travelling via Sprintlink in San Jose to get to Linden are affected. Word on the street is a major central office problem there (unconfirmed). Now, this affects customers of other service providers as well, so I'll theorize that could be what others are seeing. If you get knocked off, run the following command to see where the failure is. Please note that your route is never static, so it may not be possible to pinpoint a failure. When the CO sees the problem, they fix it, but it takes a few minutes. This explains why you suddenly can get back in. If you trace all the way to Linden, then you can log back in. How to tell if your connection is using Sprintlink: use the command tracert www.secondlife.com. Here's a snippet of mine. Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

Wow... I guess I'm one of the lucky ones... I never had a problem with disconnects and lag, and I don't have Sprintlink in any of my traces.

Yes it was happening a lot to a lot of my friends yesterday, they would crash, take ten minutes to get back in then the whole world would be massivly laggy. Lindens, lets fix the bugs before we put in a new version that will require some to have to buy new graphic cards. I also propose postponing the deployment of 1.9.1 till February 2008. That should give you enought time to fix all the bugs.

Leonard, that is extremely helpful! I wonder though, why Lindens couldn't find that out and tell us? Tracert is a basic tool for any network admin. It's not rocket science.

While I don't know exactly what happened last night--I was affected by this too. I was minding my business and flying up in Sandbox Newcomb, one time it happened, and found myself perpetually flying up, even when I let go of the keys. Puzzled, I did the usual connectivity test of attempting to do a search in FIND. Didn't work! Also happened to me a few other times. One of them was right at 11 PM SLT (PDT).
I closed SL... tried to relog... didn't work until several minutes later. I also did a traceroute but all ping times were low and satisfactorily "expected" for me.
Gonna see if this happens to me some more. We are aware tho, and didn't see anything like a DOS attack. We're going to continue to monitor things... just wanted to say something about it. =]

Thx Torley hun. Since todays last post in this topic it hasnt happened again to me. But It's exactly like that. You lose connection and have to relog only to find the server isnt responding for quite a few minutes.

The network problems of the last 24 hours are due to problems in Internet routing well beyond our control. One of the Internet backbone routers that serves our internet service provider seems to be having intermitent failures. Our service provider has had to stop routing through it, and cause that traffic to be routed through its other backbone connections (it has several).
Unfortunately, when routing changes among Internet backbones, it often causes hours of problems as the routing information settles between the different interconnect centers. That they've had to disconnect and reconnect serveral times in a short period probably hasn't made matters any easier.
Depending on how your Internet service provider connects to the Internet, your connection to the Second Life grid may, or may not be affected by this particular issue. Furthermore, your ability to connect to other services may or may not expereince problems depending on how the ISPs choose to route between them.
Alas, there is little that we, or our service provider can do until either the affected router is diagnosed by the backbone company, or the routing around them settles on the Internet. Our service provider is keeping us (and all their customers) aprised of the situation as it unfolds. If any new information surfaces, I'll try to translate the deep-geek speak to a status for you.

I'm glad to hear someone finally acknowledge this problem and that it's being actually worked on. Its been driving me (and a lot of other people) crazy for months now.
It isnt just sprintlink either, since from Verizon in Southern California we end up through alter.net to get to mae-west... the only common location I have with Leonard is the last hop at pnap.net (and of course linden labs)
8 45 ms 46 ms 45 ms 190.ATM7-0.GW6.SFO4.ALTER.NET [152.63.53.29] 9 47 ms 46 ms 45 ms internap-gw.customer.alter.net [208.214.137.206]
10 90 ms 71 ms 46 ms border1.ge1-1-bbnet1.sfo002.pnap.net [63.251.63. 1] 11 45 ms 44 ms 45 ms web2.lindenlab.com [66.150.244.125]
Yes Torley, that "cant stop moving" (or cant START, or the "rubber band" jitters effect) is what we experiance during the waves of packet loss... among other things. It gets annoying after not too long.

*sigh* Today I have frozen and been disconnected like 8 times. Hasn't happened to me prior to today, for a good couple weeks or more. Worst part is, upon two reentries I continued placing some flowers I had purchased, and two of them just poofed, not on land, not in 'Lost and Found' I sure hope they show up later.

My connectivity has been ok today so far.
I'm not sure what my provider has. I use Brighthouse networks/RoadRunner in Tampa FL.

Hmmm...
05-08-2006 13:20
Well, I continue to try to log on to some place, and it won't let me...it gets to "Connecting to Region" and freezes up. I've done everything the help forum had to offer, the step by step guide, but it will not let me log on fully. And before I logged off last time, it froze...maybe that has something to do? (very laggy I noticed as well)

Ive been essentially paralyzed. I'm on Wireless Broadband in the Virgin Islands and do have the Sprint-net speed bump. (Yes, I'm getting what I deserve! lol )
I'll ten mintues logging in, to a SL may be perma-Frozen screen, maybe, another five rezzing, then watch my chat spew out in random order. That last part can be funny, as a reply i typed five minutes earlier falls into place in a completely different and innappropriate spot in a conversation. Anyhow, I'm in long enough at that point to make an ass of myself in chat, only to be told on Yahoo Messenger that i've been kicked a while ago.
Step and Repeat this 25 times per day and you have my last few days.
So, needless to say, I'm sure hoping someone can suggest something vs. giving me comfort that I'm not alone

This problem has been going on a week or more. Like the others I assumed it was my connection, but restarted my router ect,, nope wasnt in my end. )). It also is random and doesnt affect all people at one time. One will poof, then 3 min later another ect. Very frustrating if you are deep in a tiny project and not watching activity. Work half hour and discover what you have done is gone or reverted when you relogg.

Mostly builders though cuz with scripts atleast if you noticed a red map you can copy everything to the clipboard.
