Okay, could someone explain the word 'blingtard' to me, please? Or even better, point me to some SL slang dictionary.

From: Scarlett Echegaray Okay, could someone explain the word 'blingtard' to me, please? Or even better, point me to some SL slang dictionary. From Phoenix Psaltery's Ultimate Compedia of SLang: Blingtard (n.) [BLEENG-tahrd] 1. Person of questionable mental capability, usually demonstrated by their immature actions and/or words, who often seem to think that the wearing of bling, i.e. flashy jewelry, raises their social status in SL. See also 'Bling.' 2. The Impeach Bush guy, among others. P2

So, does bling affect the brain directly or is the other way around? I'm curious since I have blingy earrings I often wear... Is there hope for me at all?

Cant get inworld to see whos' but at least one Linden Bear was way to Blingy... perhaps more notably because all the bling was closer together. I believe her AV was often blingy too but was kind enough to turn it down usually. If of course that's what was meant by the 'Blingtard' label in the first place L8r, UU

From: Simon Tokhes Does it really matter? Eh, not really, but it is sort of cool to know, sort of like "I wonder if my boss is a football fan" or "I wonder if that guy is a Ford or Chevy guy"... It just lets us know more about our peers.

From: Hiro Pendragon Are you saying there needs to be gorean, goth, and blingtard lindens too? Gorean and furry are pretty much the same thing anyways. Anyways, out of curiousity, whats the difference between anthro and furry? Guessing some sort of difference in attitude/behaviour?

From: Tren Neva Gorean and furry are pretty much the same thing anyways. Err... I hope that was a joke? From: someone Anyways, out of curiousity, whats the difference between anthro and furry? Guessing some sort of difference in attitude/behaviour? It really depends on who you ask. Some folks consider them to be the same, while others make a distinction between the two. There's really no hard-set definition for either "furry" or "anthro" that everybody agrees upon. I, for instance, consider them to simply be synonyms for "someone who's a fan of anthropomorphic animals". Nothing more.

From: someone Anyways, out of curiousity, whats the difference between anthro and furry? Guessing some sort of difference in attitude/behaviour? Anthro is short for anthropomorphic, which is giving human traits to something. An anthropomorphic dog could be a dog that talks, or a dog with a humanlike form. A furry is someone that participates in the furry fandom, which revolves around anthropomorphic animals, fantasy animals, or regular animals. So someone with an anthro avatar is not necessarily a furry. Myself included.

I have sold a couple of my skins to a Linden or two although I have yet to see them or a picture.
For those who have no idea why people make a distinction between furry and anthro, the word "furry" has negative connotations derived from some unflattering media attention over the last few years. Its a way to differentiate between someone who has a mild interest in anthropomorphic characters and role play and those to take it to another level and /or take it into a less socially acceptable direction. Sort of like the difference between a casual Star Trek fan who watches the shows and might have gone to a convention or two and an obsessed fan who has their forehead surgically altered to a Klingon's, speaks fluent Klingon and has a 3 x 5 meter mural in their bedroom in their parent's basement consisting of Kirk, Spock and Sulu in a homoerotic 3-way.
Unfortunately 'anthro' or 'anthro fan' has never really caught on so you constantly have to explain what that means where as everyone knows what a 'furry' is , kinda. Also, in the common usage of the term, furry means anything anthropomorphic although Norman the singing toaster is marginal at best. Also, anyone who has any interest in anthropomorphics is considered a 'furry'. That means if you own an anthropomorphic avatar because you like it you are a furry. Participation in the fandom is not a requirement, you just have to like anthropomorphic characters.

The main difference is that "furry" is slang or a stereotype, whereas "Anthro" is a descriptive term.
Although, a lot of furries find it greatly offensive if you like anthro animal stuff, but don't call yourself a furry. I've gotten flamed for that a great many times. But I'm not a furry, I'm just a wildlife artist that has an interest in fantasy and anthropomorphic animals.

Since I have always found the anthro's in sl facinating been a kitty myself. I wondered what all the big fuss was about but honestly I didn't question it till now. So kewl and if I ever used the term "furry" that was taken in a negative way. I for one am sorry. Knowlege is power, yup yup Cat

From: Jalia Oz /me wonders idly if there are any furry gorean goth blingtards out there... and assumes that the answer is "yes"... There very well may be but since Goreans typically do not like furries and have been specifically banned from many gorean areas in SL, there aren't many and their life is rather difficult and as it has been stated before, you will rarely if ever see a fur overblinged.

"left handed wrenches and irish stout beer are basicly the same thing" Goreans and furries can both wear pants, use wrenches, and drink irish stout beer, though.
