Some of us are sitting in Mexico (Jeraku sim) holding vigil. Jade Lily can't even log in.
![]() and...they just announced that they're logging us off at 4:40. The grid will be down for 2-3 hours. _____________________

It is a lot easier to reschedule 1 event than it is to deal with hundreds of people running around SL returning objects willy-nilly as the inclination takes them, which is what would happen if the grid stayed up for the next three hours while knowledge of how to use the exploit spread.

Yeah, and if Linden had done their job right from the beginning we wouldn't even have had this problem.
Wouldn't that have been much nicer ? _____________________

I found out (the hard way) on Thursday about the return scripted objects bug in estate management tools. Its not too big a jump to think that this bug is related to the current cause for the grid shutdown. I find it interesting that LL's say they just found this exploit when the serious return scripted objects one has been known of for 3 days.

LL will of course let the project continue at least one more week.. as weekends are the most important time - lend out the sims for a longer period and help with marketing it - again - and do al to help the project dont get into to much trouble..
I am sure of that... /Tina _____________________

Its not too big a jump to think that this bug is related to the current cause for the grid shutdown. I find it interesting that LL's say they just found this exploit when the serious return scripted objects one has been known of for 3 days. That bug was resolved with the optional client update they released (why they made it optional, I'm not sure). This was a completely separate problem that had nothing to do with private estates, it is something that affected the entire grid (a return object exploit). _____________________

Yeah, and if Linden had done their job right from the beginning we wouldn't even have had this problem. Wouldn't that have been much nicer ? If by "done their job right" you mean "been perfect," then yes that would have been nice. |

Ideally the walk would have gone ahead as scheduled. Ideally I'd have been walking it in my normal waking hours but I was on-duty, so I walked it last night instead. It was lovely. Thank you all who worked so hard on this event and have been finding ways of overcoming problems big and small.

There is always next weekend. We've all had events that had to be canceled due to technical problems.
Funny thing is, the event can unsually be delayed, and in most cases more have heard about it by then and arrive. |

Cheese & Crackers to help the Whine go away?
07-23-2006 05:15
Yeah, and if Linden had done their job right from the beginning we wouldn't even have had this problem. Wouldn't that have been much nicer ? I am curious how many of the one's who complain at the Linden's not doing their job are FREE account holders? It's sad that people can bitch and moan and whine about the game being down while the Lindens try and fix a problem. Sure it is bothersome when the game has to be down and we cannot play, but if it means something on my land not being violated or my account being hacked I am all for the grid down time! Last I checked I have not met someone who can do something Perfect ever. Perhaps those that sit and whine about the game being down need some cheese and crackers to go with the Whine? |

Funny thing is, the event can unsually be delayed, and in most cases more have heard about it by then and arrive. This is not a Sexiest Thong Contest at the Ice Bling Dragon Casino Palace, this was an event that has taken months of preparation and coordination involving hundreds of volunteers. Saying "There's always next weekend" is a bit insulting and dismissive. It all points back to the fact that this update was rushed out the door, and there are grave problems with LL's development and QA processes, and this is just another example of what the end result is. It is a shame that anyone had to be affected by this - it is all the worse that an event like RFL was adversely affected. _____________________

I agree, I think 'no payment on file' accounts shouldn't be allowed to post on the forums either, just give them generic, multiple choice radio buttons for replying to topics ![]() |

As it happens I did put my credit card info into my account at sign up, ues I have complained about the situation, and no I do not see any valid or viable reason why I should bother to put money into my account based on the weight of bugs, errors, and lengthy downtimes I have seen so far. LL need to get their act together and learn how to get things right first time, because ultimately these incidents are hurting them a lot more than us. How many people will have experienced these errors and problems and either cancelled, no renewed, or decided not to bother with a premium accout I wonder. |

Who cares about your darn cancer event." *I* said that by next week even more people might know of the event and attend. I didn't discount ANYONE's work. I know you're upset, but take a deep breath and let it out before you take the time to lash out. As to the fact that all of these bugs have happened, I agree that it's frustrating. I sympathize. I'm not getting in either. But we KNEW it could happen. Period. We took the risk that something bad could happen from the moment we agreed to the TOS. I'm not saying this was not a massive dissapointment, nor that I wish it had not happened, but I'm not going to go around beating someone with a club who warned me that something like this could happen. And for the record, debacels like this help to curb them from happening in the future. I know I don't stick MY hand in a meatgrinder more than once in a long while... |

God, I forgot the RFL was opening today; I did volunteer work for it, even.
This is fucking awesome. You know, I'm going to raise a hell of a ruckus at SLCC if the Lindens ever open the floor to questions. Hard ones, like: Why are you guys not fixing bugs? Why are you planning unstable releases during one of the most important public relations / charitable contributions in your company's history? When the hell are you going to fix the dozen or more building bugs? Why aren't you listening to your users? _____________________

Apparently, LL chose to give them another finger instead. -Pall Well speaking as someone who has put a considerable effort into holding events, attending events and had been out on teh RFL islands since before the official start and was planning to be there til the bitter sweet end, i find your comment very very insulting to me, to the Lindens and to everyone involved! Yes, it sucks that this happened but if you do not think that it was the proper thing to do at the time , well i dunno what to say, i have been plenty critical of this update, but to insinuate that closeing down was done without any thought to what was going on inworld is highly insulting! _____________________

RFL...incredible !
07-23-2006 07:36
Im sure this isnt the rite place to do this, but i MUST applaud the creators of RFL content, the builds are INCREDIBLE, i was blown away!! EVERYONE must go just to see the wonderful lands that have been created, truely eye candy!! I had a wonderful moment to lite a candle for my Dad that passed away a few years ago from cancer, its been an excellent experience for me. When we can get back in, go see this fantastic event, and give a few L, to help this magnificent cause!

Thank you all who worked so hard on this event and have been finding ways of overcoming problems big and small. Gag me. IDEALLY the Lindens would have realized how shitty and unneeded this latest "udpate" was and actually focused on fixing bugs instead of letting your developers shove their pet projects down our unwilling throats. _____________________
