When we both bought the first auction sims - Avalon and Indigo - you stated that we were big businesses and were opposed to us being allowed to do so. In fact, that's the first reason I ever came to the forums, to set the record straight in that thread. :)

I was pointing out that we didn't bring a slew of billboard advertising as you were concerned about at the time, but have both used Second Life for RL business purposes.

Regards,

-Flip

I wasn't sure whether to slap him or to hug him!

And yes, I do have a much nicer plot for him, one *with* a view. At least until somebody else builds something in front of it anyway...!

:)

Amy xx

ps. I concluded hugging was more appropriate

EDIT: Oh gawd, I suppose I really could have just told her that in person and all. *bangs head on desk!*

It hit me why I liked this article so much, while in the past, a lot of the ones focusing on making real money in Second Life have left me feeling somewhat empty. Its because rather than focusing only on "OMG, you can make real money!", they show it through simple narratives.

Instead of having "money" be the star of the article, they chose to show how people have made money, or used SL for business purposes. Instead of creating an article where people might just join and expect to make easy money, BusinessWeek outlined several different people who have used Second Life for various business applications. This doesn't make it look like easy money, rather, it shows that you need to be innovative and that its not "easy money" - its actual work to distinguish yourself from the pack.

Hopefully this kind of article will lead to more wonderfully creative minds joining us - even if they're interested in the business side of things.

Regards,

-Flip

God forbid people enjoy business, after all! ;)

Furthermore, as Second Life goes to the Metaverse, and this becomes an open platform, Linden Lab risks lawsuit in court and [attachment culling] will, I repeat WILL be reverse in court.

Hopefully, though I do enjoy the joy and laughter in response to explaining that I played for a year before FG realized break eveness. They particularly balk at my policy of only owning as much land as the business can consistently afford. It's good to see a balanced presentation. Hopefully we'll see more of that as well.
