Learning that dragging a folder containing only ONE item of clothing onto your av will make you naked other than that one item. Umm ... yeah. I found this one out in the middle of a crowded club. ![]() And I wish that I had known earlier that at least a quarter of the women in SL are actually men in RL. ![]() |

I wish I knew the great feeling you get from a plywood box when I was but a young little nooblet. now when I put my box on, I suddenly got this feeling of inner
peace. I can't put it into words. I feel... safe. Like this is where I was meant to be. Like I'd found the key to true happiness. psssh, what was I thinking wearing a oversized parrot on my face. I don't know what I was thinking. ![]() _____________________

1. Wearing that new box of freebies I found on my head. No one tells the noobs about the box on the head because it is the sole reason the old timers still log in- in hopes of catching a glimpse of the elusive box head. Still tickles me to this day... ![]() _____________________

SITTING IS DANG HARD One of the most difficult things for me to do. Have you ever noticed that sometimes if you try to sit on a prim, your avatar walks around in circles a few times then plops down? Not that i'm complaining though. I find it cute cuz im a canine and stuff trying to pick my spot. ^^_____________________

Just incidentally, I teach a series of three classes on this topic at TeaZers (titled, fittingly enough, "Things I Wish I'd Known"
. And that comic cracked me up. *giggle*_____________________

Everyone plays trivia... or at least used to... Seems to me the number of trivia events went way down after LL stopped paying for events. You can still find them, but not as often as before. |

What a great thread! Still a newbie but here are a few of mine so far...
------------------------------------------------------------ OK, my main one is that when you accept someone as a friend they can see where you are and hop there. I explore a lot and had a player just keep showing up wherever I was. She rarely chatted, just watched what I was doing. I kept thinking "What a coincidence she found this spot too". Then I was ported to a woman's house and I noticed this person in the kitchen. I finally asked if there was a way she could be tracking me and wow - what a shock. Creepy. The lesson is only accept friends that you trust to respect your boundaries. ---------------------------------------------------------- Another one is - Ratings cost money! I was saving for some shoes I really wanted and a woman in a shop rated me "positive" after a sweet chat. I responded by rating her back and clicked all three checkboxes. Boom - L$75 gone was my new shoes were back out of reach. ![]() ------------------------------------------------------------ Finally - you can turn off pose balls on some items I did not realize that a lot of items like beds, couches and rugs have options to hide unused pose balls floating over them. A lovely panoramic spot becomes much more romantic without pink " f) doggie" balls floating all over._____________________

what really grinds my gears as a relative newb
05-09-2006 09:22
Ya know what really grinds my gears?
Camera controls when editing something. It always wants to swing the camera around to almost exactly opposite what i was lokoing at when i hit edit. Chances are, if that's the view i was in when i hit edit, that's the view i needed to edit the object, not 10 feet higher from the other side, through a floor/wall/door... |

Like many others who have stated in this thread, I would have saved myself SOOOO much time had I known about the following:
ALT+Left Click and drag ALT+CTRL+Left Click and drag ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+Left Click and drag I keep my Show Look At option enabled in the Debug menu, so I can tell when new residents I'm mentoring haven't learned how to ALT focus yet. They're very appreaciative once I teach them how to use their eyes.. ![]() _____________________

Siobhan! You are my hero. Been here since 2004 and didn't know or even think of the Worn feature in search. Just goes to show, there is always something to learn.
my tip: Anything that is copyable (pictures, animations, items) can be saved to a notecard thus reducing the number of items in your inventory. I use this alot to store and sort my photos by subject. Create a new notecard, name it then drag your item, animation or photos over. Once saved you can delete the original from your inventory. When you want to look at the picture or use the item, just click on it and copy to your inventory. *huggles* Ash *edited to add clarification) _____________________

Coming to these forums, and finding out there are so many really rude people in SL. And that they think only what they say counts. These rude, mouthy, people are only looking for an argument, and really upset the flow of helpfulness in these forums. I mean how can a newbie even be heard, or voice their opinion without these verbal abusers causing havok in the thread the newbie is trying to speak in. Sure, they have their opinions to, and have the right to speak them, but they don't have to be so rude when speaking those opinions, or rebutting other's opinions. That seems to be my biggest problem I have had with SL. I feel I shouldn't have to be verbally abused because I ask for help, or voice my opinion.
Otherwise, I have had no real problems when entering, and learning this wonderful new world. Most of the people here are very helpful, and have no problem answering questions you may have. These same helpful people respond very courteously when asked very courteously. Hugs, Barb |

Wow.. thanks. Opening more then one inventory window would certainly help to get some order there before it gets totally out of control.
