From: Argent Stonecutter Actually, I don't think that's what we're talking about here. It's more like "why are we limited to such a small subset of the spaces we could see in reality". Reality includes space, deep oceans, and other places where gravity doesn't have the same effect. Reality includes worlds with more or less curvature.
I'm being somewhat idiomatic in my use of "reality". Here, I mean the subset of the laws of physics that apply in a narrow band centered on the Earth's surface, since that's what we generally encounter in day-to-day life. Other environments are conjecture, since whatever theory says, none of us have actually BEEN there - save microgravity and the moon's surface, and deep oceans while in a bubble of surface "reality", courtesy a submarine. And I agree that being able to have things that are "bigger inside than out" or connect oddly is, indeed, a useful tool. One of my favorite Unreal Tournament maps is called "Escherland", and uses the portal feature of the UT engine for some very interesting effects.

From: Seifert Surface Ah ok, I think I know what you mean. Like drawing triangles and so on in hyperbolic space can become natural? not natural. automatic. it's a fine cognitive science distinction. in the automatic, but not natural case: given stimulus x, a person can automatically do response y. however, given similar but slightly stimulus x', this person may not produce a meaningful response. in the natural case: given stimulus x, a person will have response y. however, given similar but slightly stimulus x', this person is much more likely produce a meaningful response.
