that looks cool, but I'd like to see what happens when you have multiple flexible prims linked together because, well, a single cone ain't a convincing tail unless you're a lizard.

(we're off to see the lizard...)

I didn't see the video, cuz my computer's slow, but from the comments ... sounds cool.

Still must see how this will affect things lagwise. If they produce the same strain that "light" or extra-twisty prims do, I'll have to stay away from it. Just not worth it if it does that. Plus, would we need a higher graphics card to see it? Kinda like water ripples and such.

I can see it now, Hundreds of TINY PRIMS Blowing in the Wind, Swaying and Bouncing with every step, and being Whiped around with every single Dance move... Guess that means will have to be careful in the clubs, not to get knocked about by all them moving prims....LOL

Well, hopefully it will be a client-side effect, and can be turned off in the client. We can only pray..

Now that is cool. Please, please, please tell me this is a sign that skeletons are coming too. Flexibility seems like a natural first step towards actual animation tools. Here's keeping fingers crossed.

Two facts gleaned from the IRC channel:

1) The effect is client-side, so it won't make the server cry if you have 340583479 prims of hoochie hair bouncing around. Your client, on the other hand...

2) This isn't even nearly close to pre-alpha testing. So, we might see it in six months if we're lucky.

Woot! Now I can perfect my GW avi's. :)

Addition:
I just had a disturbing thought about the prim genitals that people make. Dunno if that was already posted in this forum but I don't wanna see that please.
Let us ban the flaping manhood prims before we become emotionally scarred.

Another addition:
If this is client side, then what will our avi's look like to those who have the movment off.
If its anything like dynamic physics in other applications then we start the build by having the object straight. So will others see our wings, tails, hair, um, and other stuff, straight outward and be all retarded looking?
Just like it is with the rotation effects and particals, shiny effect?
Without those it's just not the same. And almost everyone has them off.

It kinda makes me not wanna build anything in SL anymore because nobody see's eachother the same way. :(

Thanks for the info, LF. There goes my skeleton wishes, I guess. Client side visual effect = no "real" polygon mesh movement.

I really hope this was easy to implement, because the thought that something like this coming as a higher priority than HTML or Havok 2 or a customizable GUI API or mono makes me cringe. :)

Thanxies for the wellwishes... nice timing on this thread too! How fitting, because this is one of my specialties here: avatar expressivity. And more generally speaking, I enjoy dynamic objects.

If anyone here is not familiar with the work of Jeffrey Ventrella, also known as Ventrella Linden, please check out ventrella.com. He does a lot of amazing stuff the young and old can enjoy. Which means grandchildren and grandparents and those who are neither. PLAY WITH THE BIRDIE! PLAY GRAVITY TETRIS! Lots of great schtuff, it's a fun house.
