hehe all joking aside, this makes me think of something interesting...

As indicated in my post above, speaking as an American (and apparently an untraveled one) - the word "Trollup" meant nothing to me until it was explained.

We've all heard stories before about "Lost in Translation" when it comes to international marketing. Such as:
  1. Waterpik uses another name in Denmark. "Pik" is the common Danish word for male genitals. Most Danes can easily translate "water" to the danish word "vand". And "vandpik" is a term for the morning erection.
  2. Gerber, the name of the famous baby food maker, is also the French word for vomiting.
  3. In Germany, Latte is a well known word for an erection. So, "morning latte" is when you wake up in the morning with an erection!
  4. The Ford Pinto - Pinto is Brazilian slang for "male genitals"
  5. General Motors Corp. renamed its Buick LaCrosse in Canada because the name for the car is slang for masturbation in Quebec
  6. Coors Beer put its slogan, "Turn it loose" into Spanish, where it was read as "Suffer from diarrhea".


As Second Life continues to get a more Global audience, its an excellent point that "Double Meanings" might be something Linden needs to be concerned about when selecting last names. :D
