Did I miss something or aren't these banned?

I dont think the genuine yard sale events should be banned, that is those that are isolated events, limited in duration and are really legitimate commercial events. People love them!

Its the ones who abuse the event system and disguise a regular commercial business activity as a yard sale event that need to be addressed. The way to do this without penalizing those who abide by the rules is to limit the number of yard sale events a member can post in a certain time frame, and not make a blamket ban on all such events.

Its the few bad eggs that ruin it for the rest of the membership, which is the same reason why we are now stuck with resmods.

There are better solutions to the problem in both situations that the one that was set into place by LL.

I don't know why they don't simply let the resmods moderate the event listing. Let people vote on keywords that should be banned. Starting with Yard, and Sale

Well the problem is it's not a "few bad eggs" It's a few good eggs in a box of bad eggs.

I had a period where I was going to tons of yardsales a day after I found a geninuine one and got some good deals. of the probably 40-50 of them I went to, 2 were geninuine. Just two. All the rest were places selling freebies, "Second hand shops", 24/7 yardsales selling stuff that they sell in a store somewhere else, etc.

Honestly, it was a good idea that just got bent over and raped continuiously for months on end.

If someone wants to make a real yard sale, they can use the classifieds, but having almost 100 sale "events" a day isn't legal.

I made a thread about it, and Torley stated it was only Unhosted Yard Sales that were banned, e.g. ones that were ALREADY against the rules, I really don't see the point of a big thread that says "YARD SALE BANNING?!?" and then just banning ones that were against the rules already..

What's wrong with yard sales now? Why are we rooting to get those banned?

This whole thing is really starting to suck, I mean SL in general. I thought we were having fun but lately it's turned into a bunch of people who complain just about everything.

Cache sucks, signs suck, frame rate drops, bling sucks, teleporting sucks, sex clubs suck, welcome area sucks, my neighbors suck, textures suck, new land sucks, stipends suck, dwell sucks, free users suck,Linden limitations suck, software sucks, land barons suck, lazarus is a black hole of suction, forums suck, the list goes on.

What's the point of getting a second life when all we do with it is bring the winter of our discontent from our RL along with ourselves to make everyone else even more miserable than they already are in RL.

I ask all of you, is it possible that we're just unhappy and SL happens to be convenient platform to blame our unhappiness on?

You know ... In my mind ~ a yard sale IS an event and may be something I might attend - I can promise you that I am more likely to go to a yard sale than a Best T&A "event". People enjoy doing different things in SL.

I used to like the movie listings in Events too because it was a good way to know when a movie would be starting from the beginning and would be monitored by a staff member (I have seen too many sections of movies with no staff member present to start/stop manage the movie). I was told these were not allowed to be listed anymore either -

What the hell? I was very unhappy to hear that yardsales were banned from the events calendar and it bothers me that some members feel they have the option to choose what I am allowed to see as an event.

The classifieds ... well, I like them too - but only really for the special attraction section .. however, this section seems to be getting bogged down with shops advertising and not the "theme builds / events" that I like to find. It's a shame because there are so many cool places in SL to explore but I am willing to weed through the list to find the gems

Who said I was complaining? I was just asking a simple question as to why Yard Sales were still around since I heard they banned them, or if they reversed the ban.

Question: I thought they JUST banned Yard sale announcements from the Events calendar. I don't think Lindens banned yard sales in general.

I buy a lot of things, as time goes on I decide I don't want them anymore, or I have bought things to replace them and want to sell the items I don't want. Just like in rl.
Now from what I am reading in this thread, I CAN NOT set aside a portion of my land, use my prims up, have a yard sale to try and get some of my lindens back? This is illegal???

The event listings will soon go the way of the dodo bird, for the same reason Developer's Incentives and Rating Bonuses have: people are gaming the systems, cheating, and generally acting like schmucks. Its a damn shame that some people will do anything to try to make an L$, including refusing to use any common sense or morality.

No, but listing it as a event is if its without end or unmonitored. You want to have a sale an publicize it? Use the classifieds. That's legal and what they were intended for.

As Flip says I don't think there will be a events listing before long, likely to be replaced by some third party site that can enforce its own rules as to what a qualifies as an 'event'.

So If I put out say 10 or 15 items I want to sell to try and get a few lindens back because I no longer want the items, and I put it on my own, I do not want to list it in the classifieds but only have it out there for a few days a month say, that is ok to do??????

Ask the linden's thats assuming you intend to list it as a event. My understanding for it to be legally listed as a event you'd have to be present for the entire time you listed as the period of your event.

Then again, it may well now be that they are indeed taboo as a event listing entirely. If in doubt ask LL in email.

Having a yard sale is not against the rules.

Posting a yard sale in events is not against the rules.

The only stipulation in the rules is that a host must be present for the entire time.

This should be simple then. Just have a Lindon randomly log in every so often and go to a random selection of events (especially events that repeat every 2 hours every day). If they can't find the host then whoever set up the event has their event privleges suspended.

Just a little bit of enforcement should cut down on the abuse greatly.

If they don't want to do that, then create some mechanism for users to rate/vote/somehow manage the event calendar. Right now it's just a giant mess that's crying out for attention.

Even the slightest pretence at moderation would cut down on abuse. Unfortunately, and I'm not a serial whinger but I have to say, there is none.

I think the point is that Events should be for events and not for the people who are having an unattended 'Yard, Patio, Garage, Trailer' Sale every single day. Those are stores in my opinion and a lot of others feel the same way.
