Wonderful, creative things tend to come and go and be less "in your face" than clubs and casinos. The two sims Neverland and Olde London were wonderful, but are gone, now. Gone too, are the Wizard of Oz build, Chinatown, the giant living room, Heaven and Hell, Sim Horror, and many others. BUT - there are lots and lots of creative builds and projects around RIGHT NOW. They will come - and they will go. Don't wait before going to see the things around now; don't wait if you want to support a project. Some wonderful projects are very small. One doesn't need a whole sim to be creative. I see things every day that are just amazing - and I know I don't see it all.

Also, exploring SL has become way harder since you can't get an alphabetical listing of the sims, One can go to this site: Roam Search The Metaverse Region List This displays a list of sim names. Clicking on the sim name brings up a list of places in the sim. Clicking on the place name link will load Second Life, in necessary, and bring up the map, ready to teleport. I was trying to find a simple list of sim names that are direct links but I don't find one so far and I'm tired of looking. It should be possible for a good programmer to make a scripted object for grid explorers that records which sims you have been in and keeps track of which you have and which you haven't been in, and display it on a web page. _____________________

In regards to originality, creativity and an overall sense of wonder in a very freindly and social environment, I'd recomend you visiting Fairytale Island.
Wizard of Oz? Peter Pan? It has all of that. I fell in love with the place. so much so I convinced the owner to let me rent land there. Its my home now, and a great example what you can do with a little imagination and creativity. |

Things I'd like to see:
Recreation of the first Tomb Raider where you can walk around and explore. I think it would be fun to recreate famous paintings using SL avatars, clothing etc. Make really stellar builds permanent in SL like Chinatown and Olde London. Large museums like the Chicago Museum of Science and Technology to fund and set up reproductions of their exhibits. Imagine taking a virtual tour of a German Uboat that is as accurate at the technology of SL will allow. Or an exhibit of a Saturn 5 rocket or sit inside the Apollo capsule perhaps? Movie studios sponsoring sims to recreate sets from movies. Could you imagine walking around Syndrome's lair from "The Incredibles" recreated in SL? Or Radiator Springs from "Cars" maybe? For what these studios spend on cappuccinos they could sponsor some really neat content and promote whatever movie LL approves. Imagine Ford buying a couple sims just to have enough prims to recreate the new mustang in SL so people could actually open the hood, sit inside and move the seats, try out different colors, whathave you. There are racing games that may let you drive them but SL lets you kick the tires. Things like setting your avatar to your real life measurements and seeing if you could live with the vehicle is a heck of a valuable ability and would save a trip to the dealership and dealing with salesmen. _____________________

What I see in this thread is what I see in SL - suggestions to recreate fantasy worlds, museums, games, movie sets, places - and very few attempts to create things that have never been seen or experienced before.
That extends to the social aspect of SL, as well - clubs, pubs, dancing, groups, hierarchies, drama, etc. - and nothing particularly new, unfamiliar, or different from real world dynamics. The title of this thread makes a point, I think - this is a virtual world.... Where are the things you cannot experience - let alone imagine - in real life? |

Something of an impossibility, at least in some theories. Even when making "something new", we are limited by prior experience. But enough of the philosophy! ![]() In any case, I'd say there's plenty of that... it may not be what personally appeals to any given person, but it's out there. There is some notable difficulty in being an anthromorphic animal in reality. While cities are a known quantity, a portrayal of a futuristic dystopia is not. I wouldn't sneer at reality-based touchstones - the Port is as divorced from reality as you can get, yet I found it kind of aggravating to navigate, to be honest. _____________________

I'd like to see more projects which take things from SecondLife and put them in First Life.
