The 3rd year anniversary of SL is fast approaching... June or July? Last year The celebration was held in the vehicle sims (Brilliant, Fame) and a number of "historic" builds were rezzed - ones that residents remember or might recognize.

I spoke to Robin Linden who said that they would welcome ideas from residents about what they'd like to have this year for the anniversary. It can be completely different from anything done so far.

Being an SL history buff, what I'd like to see this year is the old Lindenworld from Alpha rezzed. I've shown this picture to people and everyone would love to see this place up close. I'm hoping one of the Lindens still have it stashed away in one of their inventories. (Is it just me or does local lighting look kick ass back then?)

I kinda doubt they still have it. Alpha was on a different grid entirely. Everything was wiped, save for some items that were manually copied over. Philip's "The Man" statue, Governor's Mansion, and whatever was in people's inventories i think.
Maybe somewhere, somehow, they still have a backup CD?

Perhaps a tour of the oldest existing builds would interest people. If llTeleportAgent() is functional, sorry it's already functional I mean made available to us, it'll be a breeze to organize. But I'll volunteer to do it anyway even if I have to throw water and flour on my face and make it seem like a chore.

By oldest, I mean builds that have been rezzed in place or have been rerezzed for the occassion i.e. Americana builds or Stage 4.

I plan to do a Grimmy Moonflower memorial and blow up a bingo hall in effigy.

I still have old Boardwalk Bingo cards if you need copies of them.

Should we call the Cartel for backup? ;)

llMapDestination can be used as a substitute for llTeleportAgent - it just requires the extra step of clicking the Teleport button on the map.

I like the idea of a tour across Second Life to visit historic areas, instead of staying in one area like we did last year in the vehicle regions. Perhaps have a consistent method of directing folks to the next region on the anniversary tour, like the Infohub Transport Sphere Thingy I started roughing out at the Nova Albion Hub?

Then have a central place for an offical ceremony/celebration?

Another idea might be a HUD attachment that you can use to cycle through the vairous places to visit, and then teleport to each, sort of a self paced thing.

Now that's a cool idea! Like a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Metaverse!

The benefit of this is that one doesn't have to locate the portal that leads them to the next area(s). They carry it around with them.

We could have a varitey of ways to direct folks to each region on the tour.

Second Life Timeline

How about an interactive display that concisely chronicles the development timeline for Second Life -- from the first spark of the initial idea to where we are today?

Phobos Region Available For Historic Build Display
04-10-2006 09:21
Most of the Phobos region is available for the duration of the 3rd Anniversary celebration for hosting a historic build that would need nearly a whole region. Send me a message if anyone is interested and we'll work out the logistics.

Conveniently, Oz Spade's Second Life Historical Museum is also in Phobos with a wealth of info on Second Life's past.

If you guys need help with building or scripting stuff, or just general history info, let me know. I don't have any project going right now, though my RL can get pretty busy sometimes.

Eggsactly!

Is there a version of this inworld somewhere that the local yoke-als can interact with? Is this same info at the SL Historic Museum?

I like both the idea of a guided tour and one you could following along with on a HUD. Maybe have LindenRadio station give the audio tour live or something.

I remember the 2nd anniversary last year and how I saw Governor Linden for the first time with her purple hair. Of course the whole event was a grey fest but still fun.

While looking back through my pics on SnapZilla from that time, there was also a themepark with rides they brought back which was VERY fun. Would like to see that again.

No idea, ask Oz - he runs the museum, I haven't been there in ages.
We can certainly work on that, or a HUD teleport tour thingy, it's something we recently talked about. We still have lots of time until the third anniversary, so I suggest we wait for a while, see if we can get the built-in HTML thingy or scripted HTTP requests. That way the info would always be in sync with the latest version of the wiki.

I think this is such a cool idea. What places would interest people?

Gov's mansion?
Old WA in Lime (so people could see what the original WA in Ahern looked like)
How about the Arch D Linden Grande in Natoma? (or not?)
What about some of the 10 original sims? Taber?

Arch D Linden Grande:

What else?

Well, you can start by looking here :)

Also some info here: http://history.secondserver.net/index.php/Sim_Histories

We realize we should probably restructure this part of the wiki... I've been cleaning up and expanding the People section lately, maybe some of you would like to help with this part.
