Yeah but there are thousands of these signs and if thousands of people follow this procedure, what are they going to do? Put us ALL in the cornfield? How will they brag that they have 100,000 residents when 50,000 of them are in the big house, or should I say big field? LOL

The idea isn't bad, yes, it might work well.
'Only' problem is the Linden Land management probably visiting that land and rightfully clearing YOUR invisible prim, after the bush guy reports you :-(

Well, sadly your solution doesn't meet the requirements, so it's not eligible. Though that's the lesser part, I would still pay, if it was a viable solution. The bigger problems is Lindens getting you after you do this invisible trick for the 4th or 5th time, for violating the ToS :-( So this won't work :-(

Actually, you *can* change the texture of an object that you don't own. Just create a prim, select what you want to change, then select your prim last. Click the texture tab, then click the texture square, and select what you want. It'll change it on your screen, but not other's. I think this is as close as you will get to replace the actual texture anytime soon.

Wow, this ACTUALLY WORKS!!! Even though it's only a per-session solution, so not perfect, but... wow... cool!!! Best done with a transparent texture :-)

If noone does the program that meets the requirements in the starting post (probable :-( ), even though your solution doesn't meet about any of the requirements for the bounty prize, I think I'll give you at least a part of it!

Posting a method to identify arbitrary texture IDs would be a collossal breach of security for every item builder on the grid.

(On a darker note I should perhaps add that I don't doubt that it could be possible.)

Yes, if anyone thinks textures and sounds are secure you are in for one hell of a surprise. This includes skins and clothes, textures/sounds accessed by key from a script, everything.
I can name several different ways to steal arbitrary textures without LL ever being able to detect it, and I can name several people who have successfully tried it. Obviously, I will refrain from doing so, since I don't want to contribute my knowledge to the already rampant disrespect for creator rights that goes on in SL.
Do not upload anything private to SL.
