why do people care if their thread is moved?

I was just wondering. What exactly is the downside of moving a thread?
It's been happening a lot lately, (mostly because people seem to be going out of their way to make threads that need to be moved seems to me), but I just don't get why folks get so waay "over the top" upset about it.
The resmod moves the thread and invariably you get a lot of expletives and bad language etc. People even threaten each other and say they are going to quit, and SL is "going to hell" etc.
Why? What's the big deal?
It's not like your getting abuse reported or anything, there is no ticket involved, the thread is still there. Is it cause it moves off the front page? That happens in about ten seconds on a busy day anyway.
I don't get it.

this is a meta discussion about forums and therefore is not appropriate for general

I think there is too much huffing and puffing on both sides.
Some folks just get so worked up about threads being in the wrong place, and likewise for the opposite (having one of theirs moved).
Funnily enough, now that I think about, they're probably just pissed off because a thread or two of their own was moved at one point, and now are playing the retribution game.
A dog chasing it's own tail.
Nothing new I suppose. Neighbors behave this way in RL all the time unfortunately.
My next door neighbor has two dogs that bark from 530am til 10pm, nearly every day of the year.
I asked him nicely to do something about it. He got all indignant and called me a "whiny cat lover".
So I reported the dog barking to the cops, and they dealt with it.
So now, the guy goes out of his way to call the cops on us for any frivolous thing he can come up with.
I imagine that the anonymity enjoyed on these forums only compounds that mentality.

Its a good question.. I just try to move them when they need to be moved and take what comes after with a pinch of salt and a good sence of humor..
It'll probably die down in the next few days, I hope..

Moving threads creates artifacts (MOVED: ) which clog up the forum space just as much as the original thread would. Its also done so arbitrarily (can't blame the ResMods... blame the silly folks ARing every thread started by someone they don't like) that at this point, its impossible to find a thread you were previously reading without hunting all over the forums. Just let 'em be in General. There's a reason is called GENERAL. Threads which belong here are being moved all over the place because they "might" have a little bit to do with this topic, or that topic, but really are meant to be of General interest to the community. That's my beef; and the RedMods seems to be doing it because of the amount of ARs they're getting, not because they disagree the thread should be in General.
In short, they're appeasing the whining babies by giving them their bottle to shut them up. That's what I find annoying. People are using the anonymity of the AR system to grief legitimate threads with bureaucracy.
Regards,
-Flip

From: FlipperPA Peregrine Moving threads creates artifacts (MOVED: ) *snip* That is largely my fault as I forget to take them out (being the default option).. I am trying to remember now, and will try my best not to leave redirects.

But then how will we find threads we were already participating in previously without having to hunt around and waste a lot of everyone's time? Regards, -Flip

Well lets say you are having a contest. Say, a SCRIPTING contest. So you post your contest in the scripting forum so that your audience, namely scripters, will see the contest. And its not a small contest... the prize is like almost 20K linden. So you definitely want a large amount of people to see it. And you know full well that scripters don't read the events column. And you know full well that most people who go to events don't give a rats ass about a scripting contest because they don't script. So its like... LOGICAL to put it in the scripting forum. Then an overactive resmod comes along and moves it to events. Hey -- way to interfere with communication there resmod!

Self-importance?
Seriously though, I think what's happening now is just pathetic. Not on behalf of the Resmods, but on behalf of those abuse reporting anything and everything and those creating a false problem in order to undermine the Resmods. There's plenty of problems with the Resmods program without generating false situations to get your point across. And this mass AR-ing is really childish.
I'm quite suprised at Flipper jumping on the bandwagon. Look at this thread, he's creating arguments that no matter how the Resmod responds, he can pick them/it apart.
But then again, maybe not. Tangled webs and all that. His mate was the catalyst for this particular explosion of ridiculousness.

Actually. I hate when I start a thread about a new group, and it gets an active discussion going, and they move it to Employment Oppurtunities. WTF? I'm not employing anyone! More importantly, no one can REPLY to the thread!

You've covered the 'sword' bit. Now what about the bloody 'egotist' bit?!!! Aww. I was kidding Moopfy. It's just that I imagined you going for 10 pages with people shouting out - "Who me!!?"

It makes it harder to find where Ingrid is posting so I can come round and leave a snarky response that makes fun of her.

From: Moopf Murray No, not you. The sword-weilding egotist. Well please use proper references then. I *know* Mate can be a term used between friends, but it can also be used in reference to spouses, which is what I thought you meant since I have been a little more vocal than usual. I guess these things happen when you can't name names. In which case, I feel dirty now and need a shower.

Whoa, I missed a lot here. Just for the record, Jenn is my only "mate" in that sense of the word (although, I should tell you the story about the swingers party which followed us at the club in Philly on Saturday - a hearty laugh). Anyone else being my mates - whether a Linden, an old timer, a newcomer, or anything in between, has nothing to do my my opinion on an issue. While I'm a supporter of Linden Lab in general, I've been known to blast them as well as anyone when I think it is deserved, despite the fact I consider many of LL's employees friends. The same goes for old timers, newcomers, and everything in between. I thought you'd give me more credit than that, Moopf! Regards, -Flip
