SLX and SLB a hive of scum and exploitation?

I think a bigger concern that simply selling items that are of dubious use is the sale of items that are clear violations of the TOS, like remote chat monitoring devices. While it is certainly not up to these sites to enforce the TOS, I would hope that they would have policies in place forbidding the sale of such items and would remove them upon notice as part of being a good faith business, since both sites are profitting off of these items. A quick search for spy on either site reveals that both sites are currently selling such items.

I've noticed that they very carefully state that the product is NOT intended to violate the SL TOS -- Like that means anything apart from "hey, we're just selling it, not making anyone use it".

This isn't anything new- it's just the same as the bongs and pipes you can buy from highstreet stores "for smoking tobacco". Everyone knows they're devices intended for an 'illegal' activity, everyone knows they're not going to be used for smoking tobacco, but selling them isn't illegal in itself. The tool is innocent, however it appears. It's down to how they're used, not what they are, so advertising and selling them isn't a crime either.

I want one that rolls around like a hamster ball.

Transparent Sphere vehicle with a run animation for the 'driver'

I don't code, and can only make rudimentary builds, but doesnt' sound too hard.

Oh, and stating that it is not any worse than RL is lame. SL should be better than RL!!!!

But just like RL it should be the consumers/citizens that make it that way not the government....

Browsing through the catalogs of SLExchange and SL Boutique, I noticed a large number of either completely useless items, such as "secret communication rings" (Uhh... IM, anyone?), to really simple items, such as scanners. Being a scripter, I know that these things are extremely simple, and could be made in less than thirty minutes.

Am I ranting flamebait, or is there something to this?

(I love SLX and SLB, they provide a great service, but I'm skeptical as to the usefulness and value of some of their items)

you're a ranting flamebait :). hehe, well sort of. I get it, because I also can script, but the majority of the people who use SL can't, or don't want to. That stuff is there for them. As to how useful it is... doesn't have to be, just a novelty will do.

Take the free beach ball from your inventory. Make a 10m transparent hollow sphere, put a small square block inside, link the two. Drop the script from the beach ball into your sphere. Go get the free Linden made canoe, take the script from the canoe and drop it on your sphere. Use your camera control to go inside the sphere and right click (control click) on the block and sit on it. Haven't tried it, but I'd bet it works. And no knowledge of scripting needed.

Is it alright to knock everyone out of a sim and crash the sim if its an island sim and you are the owner?

That would be one potentially acceptable use for it.

Actually it's very likely not to be. Restarting a sim is likely to involve some work from other services, even if your island is totally private.

The Lindens probably wouldn't even notice or mind unless you were doing it a lot on purpose though.
