Why can't adults have NO MODERATION?

In forums all over the world, the ONLY threads that are removed are ones that involve real-life threats.

Everything else is open season as long as its posted in the right forum, and then its just moved, no fanfare, no message, no warning, into the right forum by moderators who know how to moderate, not censor.

Why can't we have that here? REAL moderators, not this sham ResMod program where every closed thread is done so with a snide remark from someone who shouldn't have any power over their fellow residents as any other.

Moderators MODERATE... they don't censor. They don't ban. They don't fucking get involved in the drama -- they move threads to the proper forums and that's about it.

I do not like the ResMod program, and I do not like the direction Linden Labs has been taking the forums (and Second Life in general) over the past few months.

And Robin wanted to offer carrots instead of sticks?

Step One: GET RID OF THE STICKS.

There has been a lot of the ResMods getting involved in the drama, pontificating from on high about how they see the situation.

This falls under their mandate, however, to contribute positively to threads and all that other jazz (in theory).

Eh. I just think all this crap is hilarious.

After initially being miffed, this is my current stance.

I don't get it and doubt I ever will.

I was miffed earlier in the week when it looked like the whole thing was dying down. I had expected a much more sustained drama.

It's back, though, much to my delight.

It's quite amazing how some of them have become bastions of holy light, isn't it. I mean Pendari hasn't minced her words in the past, yet now, butter really wouldn't melt, would it.

Damn. Again. Mentioned names. Oooooops.

Yeah I know who you mean - I read like the first 5 words before I start the 'scroll down'.
It's sorta like the 'mexican food' version of forum posts - you get the same stuff no matter what you ordered, just arranged differently.

I could go for no moderation. I could certainly defend myself a lot more easily that way.

Someone must save us from ourselves! Who will think of the children?!

(And as a pre-emptive strike here... Unless the 'time' you want us to give it will somehow remove ResMods completely, take that "Give it time!" mantra, and stuff it up your starfish!)

I totally agree and would even take it one step further to make it a rule that a resmod should not be permitted to post on any thread during their two week rotation stint. I find it incredibly offensive to see a resmod post a warning to a member not to use profanity when that same resmod used those very words repeatedly in their own posts.

The resmods do not own the forums, and posts are not made to them personally. There is no reason a resmod has to reply to every post with drivel. Its annoying.

MOderation means exactly what Aaron stated. I think the program should be revamped or eliminated.

And...... ? Just because some act childish we need every ten threads closed by self-righteious ResMods forced to work inside an ill-conceived program whos ONLY TRUE PURPOSE is to try and create less work for the Lindens, who lately ain't been doing shit for the community?

because some people can't resist reading things that piss them off. and further they can't resist saying stuff when they are pissed off.

which leads to other people who complain when other people are pissed off.

and the complaints make ll's head ache, so they hope by doing something like the resmod system, they can stem the tide of complaints.

Other forums I post on have more rules than this one, and we get along just fine.

The problem is that some people just do not like rules and being told what to do, when by choosing to post here you agree to abide by the rules laid down for the forum.

Grow up and stop whining. Stick within the rules of the boards, and you won't get posts removed.

So, as in so many other arenas, a couple of jackoffs get to spoil it for everyone else. We all get treated like children, because a couple of people might potentially act like children.

How about this: we all get treated like adults, and those who act up get punished after the fact. Instead of preemptively punishing everyone by babysitting us, because someone might act up.

No? We can't be treated like adults? Really, we have to punish everyone?

Grow up and stop whining.

Based upon the rules of these forums, as stated, you have just made a personal attack and should be warned for it. See how easy that is? Why can't you abide by the same rules?

There's a difference between "Grow up Lewis" and "Grow up (generally)".

As you were not mentioned by name or through any cryptic means - merely a comment to everyone who was complaining, I don't see that as a personal attack.

i have to agree with Lewis, but again context

Im the type of person who doesnt need to quote the post RIGHT above mine, i naturally assume the thread flows, if not then quote back.

so if i had posted bla bla bla then had seen Grow up and stop whining after it i would (at first) take it as being directed at me... (after that split second i would wise up tho)

IMO the correct awnser is

Hey! You all need to grow up and stop whining.

You said it in response to a quote from Aaron, thus it could be taken directly as you telling him to grow up. My point is that "the rules" are all too easy to interpret however a particular moderator wants to - what you said could easily be construed as a personal attack.
