From: FlipperPA Peregrine hehehehe, yeah, I found it kind of ironic myself. I guess it goes to prove that sometimes quantity outweighs quality - type enough crap and eventually, people start believing it. It's like how Howard Stern became "The King of All Media" - he kept saying it for years, over and over, until others started saying it. I love the new term, Ice! You made me laugh out loud. I was shocked Prokofy was opposed to something so blatantly good for everyone in the community (I don't do sarcasm well, do I?), then I remembered: Prok is opposed to anything involving me. Check out the response here for a refresher, hehehe: http://secondslog.blogspot.com/2006/02/formal-proposal-revamping-second-life.htmlRegards, -Flip Simple it is because *it* fears that you only want privacy controls so you can have super secret meetings with the Lindens. There is a song by Bauhaus that goes like this: Paranoia Paranoia lala lala lala lala

From: Michi Lumin Wait... Flipper.... said Ayn Rand Fan attacked *me* out of nowhere in IM, saying that I was *responsible* for the *horrible new group tools* ....
And now you're saying that he rallied for them? With two seconds of Googling, this one jumped out: From: Him I totally agree that the forum snobs should not be knocking anyone who moves into this area, but I have to wonder why we aren’t instead given tools to create it ourselves – like better group tools, better advertising capacity, better reach to newbies, better conditions of the game itself, which has been racked with lagging and crashing since 1.7 Source: http://www.dragonscoveherald.com/blog/index.php?p=1019Not to mention this entire opera: http://secondthoughts.typepad.com/second_thoughts/2006/01/the_group_tools.html From: Cindy I would think any DBA worth his salt would be interested in reducing the load on the asset server. Maybe LL doesn't let their DBA out of his cubicle? hehehehe, you made me snarf with that one. Regards, -Flip

From: someone Dual core is the next technology and soon all new computers will have this feature. Not to pick, but its been around quite a while and will be quickly becomming a has been technology, Intel recently announced quad core by the end of the year, and AMD has something planned for next year. It takes a while for developers to catch up to 'new' technologies, when the new generations of video cards came out with a ton of great features it took the gaming industry a while to catch up to that also. I see more video card companies resorting to multiple GPUs on a single card as wel, SLI support in SL would be nice, but for now i just run one monitor per card, nice to have SL and Desktop at the same time

I do not have an issue with the privacty. If ANYONE on my friends list abused the privage they would not be on that list for long. Think of it as a test and giving them enough rope, etc. What gets me upset is SL and their "it is on the client" side crud". No playability should come first and perhaps they need to come up with a new program from scratch. If they refuse to support the new technologies they will be passed and left behind. Hstory shows that again and again. I refuse to degrade the performance of my system to play Second Life. The "patch" from AMD did not work either However my FS9 runs GREAT!!!!

From: FlipperPA Peregrine Better privacy tools are a good idea. I've previously proposed an extensive privacy system for SL, which is linked to here. Personally, I'd go with a drop-down box or two in preferences: "Can map me", options : "partner", "friends","Residents I share a group with", "everyone". "Can see my online status", options : "partner", "friends", "Residents I share a group with","everyone". People looking at your account, *anywhere*, when they don't have the permission to see your online status just get 'unknown'. I hope that's enough. What would really be nice is a series of icons for each friend in your list, like this : * an eye-shaped "eyecon" (sorry, had to be done) if they can map you. * a 'T' shaped icon if they can send you teleport invites. * a 'tick' icon if they can always see your online status * a 'cross' icon if you want to appear offline to them * a 'Linden' icon if they are a Linden. * a smaller 'Linden' icon if they are a Live Helper, Mentor, Greeter or volenteer staff. * a red 'P' icon if they cannot read your profile at all * a green 'V' icon if you want to auto-accept inventory offers from this person. * a red 'V' if you want to decline all their inventory/etc offers, group invites etc. I also think the 'mute' button should stop the person you've muted seeing that you're online.

I'm already purple so it wouldn't matter if it made your hair dye run. Purple power! I'd love to - but the grid is down. Angel: very cool ideas!

Actually you'd be surprised (i was) at how fast an Athlon 1200mhz (pre XP) runs SL. I was getting 25fps in some areas. I've made SL run on a K6 with PC133. --- okay, sorry. It didn't run, it walked. But still.

I can get higher framerate than I get if I just stopped running 25 mozilla tabs, several IM clients, IRC and MUCKs... Photoshop... 2 or 3 calculators... 6 notepads... hrm NT console windows, Cygwin X with some X11 apps... .... Thunderbird and SL are in there somewhere... I can get 5 to 10 FPS... and that's fine since it's not an FPS.
