Are forum moderators considered "live helpers"? I thought they were to "police" the forums.

The question makes no sense to me. Why would they, unless they're part of one of the in-world help groups? That's like asking why all Live Helpers and Mentors don't get to have moderator rights in the forums, to show the opposite.

Will the Forum Mods be given access to Help Island? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Was that really a serious question? Forum mods only get to play in forums. Why on earth would you get to go to Help Island? |

That's like asking why all Live Helpers and Mentors don't get to have moderator rights in the forums, to show the opposite. Regards, -Flip The volunteer groups of mentors, greeters, live help, and instructors were all created before Help Island's existence. Thus there is no particular reason why those groups should have been given access to Help Island. A distinct set of people could have been chosen for the role, but they weren't. The volunteer groups in existence at the time of Help Island's creation were given acccess to Help Island. The user mods are volunteers, one might thus assume they would get access to Help Island like the other volunteers do. If the role of user mod had existed at the time of Help Island's creation I suspect the user mods would have had H.I. access granted without any real thought. I don't much care what the answer is, it's just a perfectly understandable question that occured to me. _____________________

What exactly is your reasoning that a FORUM mod would get access to Help Island?
It really makes no sense. Forums are separate from in-world. So you shouldn't be getting "special" access to Help Island since what you do has no bearing there. Be happy if you are a forum mod and wield your power wisely *snicker* |

Be happy if you are a forum mod and wield your power wisely *snicker* I did not make a case in the original post for or against a policy, I asked a simple, flat, yes or no question. Forums and in-world are all part of "the Service" referred to in the TOS. _____________________

I think the forum mods need snappy, patent-leather wearing forum avatars.
Anyone up to make some? _____________________

To answer Suezanne's question, nope not me. I have no access, now and doubtfully in the up-coming days. I'm just answering for myself though. Other mods might have a different situation if say, they were already playing a part in the Help Island.

Forum ResMods are not, in fact, given "automatic" access to Help Island, unless they are also members of the appropriate volunteer group.

To me, the question provokes a yes or no answer. Well, to me the clear answer would be: no. It also appears that to me that if you were truly posting for a yes or no answer, Hotline to Linden would have made a lot more sense than General, but I'm no ResMod. ![]() Regards, -Flip _____________________

According the the forum descriptions:
"Discuss your ideas and observations about SL" This clearly belongs in Off Topic! or maybe New Products... I'm not sure. _____________________

It also appears that to me that if you were truly posting for a yes or no answer, Hotline to Linden would have made a lot more sense than General, but I'm no ResMod. ![]() Regards, -Flip The Resident Moderator, or anyone who knows the answer, could answer the yes or no question just as well as a Linden employee, but can't answer in the Second Life Answers forum, since they aren't Lindens. Placing the question in General thus makes more efficient use of paid staff time. All sorts of questions that ask for cut and dry answers are asked in all the discussion forums all the timem, which is one of the purposes of the discussion forum. As an example, someone asked a question in General in the last day or so on how to sell items. This question could have been directed to the Linden staff, or people could have tried to get the moderator to move it into Land and Economy, or people could have offered their opinions on the merits and drawbacks of selling items. Instead they just tried to answer the question that was actually asked. _____________________

Seems to me she was asking a simple question and we got an official answer. Although I am interested in knowing why they can't go to Help Island if they wanted, since they were chosen by LL to Help with the forums. If they are able bodied to deal with the forums, why does this not allow them temporary access to HI?

I cannot think of a single reason why a Forum Moderator should go to Help Island unless they are going as a Live Helper, Greeter, Mentor, or as a Linden. Forum moderation is irrelevant there.

Yes, the very idea of people with clean rap sheets who have been selected for communication skills and and pleasant manner being exposed to new users - why, that's just crazy talk! What's really important is that we be real cliqueish like junior high school students. _____________________

A mod like that, he kill your brother... |

What's really important is that we be real cliqueish like junior high school students. Don't be silly. My point is perfectly plain. The function of a Forum Moderator is irrelevant on Help Island. _____________________

What's really important is that we be real cliqueish like junior high school students. Very silly argument - by that token why shouldn't the live help crew and the mentors have access to the forum mod tools? Answer: They don't need them to do their job. If we want the forum mods to go to help island - let them join the group who's job it is, and vice versa. _____________________
