I've always wondered this; it annoys me because I sometimes hear a really good stream somewhere and it's a pain to find out what the URL of the stream is. There are other ways to get the stream URL, but it's a lot of work to just get the URL which should be available anyway. Why is this information hidden? After all, your computer connects to a server to play the music; shouldn't you be able to know what you're connecting to? -Zorin It's very easy to get actually. Enable the debug window in the debug menu, and restart SL. Now you'll get an extra window with lots of debug output, and one of the things you'll see is the streaming URL when the music starts playing. |

Linden Lab cannot protect your audio or video URLs. They very simply can't. Individual PCs are connecting to sites beyond LL's control and processing the data locally so that the PC owners have ready access to the streaming information. There very simply is no way LL can facilitate any security of that information beyond starring the entries in their own client.
This works just like textures being processed by our local video boards. There's very simply no way for LL to avoid us being able to tap that information once it's downloaded. Please explain this to people so that everyone can understand what's possible and what isn't, so people can understand what realistically belongs to them and what doesn't (possession really is nine-tenths of the law). You can pay a lot less money to provide a very limited access stream; but if you patch it to a land mass in Second Life, the URL will be public knowledge. Scream until your head falls off if you must. It's a fact and there's naught to be done for it. _____________________
