I just tried to play SL, to see if they had the new version ready to be downloaded. They did. I download the new version which was labled "1.10.6.0".

Here is the problem, once I start to install it tells me that I already have this version installed. I got this message the first time I tried to install. So I just click yes when it asked me if I want to reinstall it. I then tried to play SL after it was finished installing. I still was told "There is a new version of SL" and was forced to download it again.

This has never happend with any other version.

Same problem. Might as well post, so they know it's not just one or two people.

No, it dont happen all the time (first time for me as stated in my above post). If after you download and install the new patch only to be told once you try to play you need to download the new patch of that which you just did, its a problem.

Yes. Taht is happening to me too. I am glad that it isn't software on my computer that is acting up. :) Also, what is up with the time of the posts here? The time is wrong.

They're not uploading the wrong version. The new version is not yet up. Monitor this page:

http://secondlife.com/community/downloads.php

When the version number changes from 1.10.6 (current) then it's time to download.

Don't use the client update to monitor.

The new version is 1.11, not 1.10.6.0.

Interesting. Why would they open the automatic download if they havnet yet updated it. LOL Wouldnt you want to update the automatic updating system with the new patch before enabling it to force the download?

Actually, over 1 1/2 years it's only started happening to me the last 3 upgrades (including this one).

(they fixed it apparently now)

Me too. Endless cycle of downloads.

But in my case I am told that there is a new version to download. An earlier posting suggested a different message.

My client remains on 1.10.6.0

So I am locked out. Is anyone getting in ?

Is it simply that the upgrade is not yet ready for download and our downloader is too thick to know what to do ?

How it works:

1. LL shuts down resident login.
2. LL uploads new server software. They have the latest client but they don't make the client available yet.
3. When we try to start the client, the client learns that a new client is needed. It will attempt to download the latest client however the downloadable client is not yet the updated one.
4. LL continues testing, making last minute adjustments to the client.
5. When they are satisfied, LL uploads the new client.
6. We can then update manually or automatically after that.

They don't put up the new client right away because they make last minute adjustments. There was an update where I saw the version number change twice.

No one should be getting in right now, as the grid is scheduled to be down for another 2 hours...

I just closed my installer, when I saw the 1.10.6. Bleh.

Guess they aren't done yet?

Maybe at the last minute they decided to add a few options, like, "Turn off camera flash"?
Nah. They're just a tad late.

Edited: Okay, seems the correct version is up on the download page. Guess the autodownloader is mucked up as usual.

1.11.0.9 is up. No guarantees though that they won't change it one more time.

Ah - I stand corrected - should have checked timing first.

It's strange though, that they allow this ambiguity to happen, and for the downloader to insist on downloading the new version. Why not have the downloader know that an update is in progress, and tell us so ?

Perhaps they want to be able to disseminate interim candidates to testers before the process is concluded, and want them to be able to use standard software to do it ?
