Hmm my img tag isn't working. Odd.

Anyway, here's my take on this latest milestone in SL development: http://www.rikomatic.com/blog/2006/06/a_quarter_milli.html

Half is a conservative estimate. Is there anybody besides me who hasn't created an alt or two in the last few days?

I've never made an alt.

Account numbers are meaningless, as so many are just alts. One friend I know has signed up 5 alts alone this weekend since the lifting of restrictions.

What is important is online numbers - and they aren't moving very far. It's the overall percentage that matters.

4,000 online out of 100,000 accounts is far more impressive than 5,000 out of 200,000. Unfortunately very few people seem to realise that - especially Linden Labs, who only appear interested in the number of signups.

I wonder how much faster everything would be if the asset server was tidied up to clear up accounts that are unpaid and haven't logged in for 6 months or more.

Nor me. A friend who's made 5 this weekend tried to persuade me this morning. I explained that I have enough trouble scraping together enough of a personality to make one avatar, let alone multiple.

I think we've reached 7,000 online around 250,000 residents. So the percentage is going up?

I don't have a teen - what, are they free now, too?

I don't think I want one to be honest, sitting around, eating things and whining.

I haven't been keeping track, I just know it hasn't been a proportional increase.

I'd be very interested to know how many are actually active players right now - and how many are just more multiple alts on the same PC sitting in camping chairs for hours on end. Yes I know performance will be dreadful but who cares about 2fps if you aren't actually trying to play?

I don't have an alt..

Especially now that there isn't any POINT to having an alt. No 50L/week stipend, no 250L signup bonus...

You know this how?

Oh, and the number of alts your friends have doesnt' count. That's called anecdotal evidence.

Reminds me of what happened in ActiveWorlds... when old accounts stopped paying, they kept the count in the system. A conservative estimate today could say that they have 10,000 active accounts, however they (were, dont know if they still are) claimed to have over 300,000 active users.

Supposedly, however, this is a common tactic in nearly every online program/game.

Take heart in the fact that we have on average 10 times the number of online users that they (AW) do. For obvious reasons =)

Recently, yes. When I started only a few months ago (end of January), I think we were just breaking 5,000 on Sundays, so yes, this is a nice jump. (If anyone has actual numbers, that would be nice.)

The recent jump could be alts playing with their main, heh.

I think that would be fun, a companion I could truly approve of in every way! :)

It would fry my cpu, though. Never mind.

And whys this matter? 4/8th are ppl who joined and never played again, another 3/8th are alts or ppl just make for whatever about of $ was givin at the time, and 1/8th are ppl who are currently playing at a single point of time. now you notice that 1/8th of 250k isnt 2k the people all ready loged on in his picture (5k on adverage) thats because the rest are having log on issues or crashing. sooooo this means nothing and its like making a big deal out of red ants attacking black ants in someones back yard
