There is also the offer of a last name if you have a group of several dozen people ready to join SL if they can all be in the same family e.g. Suicide.

Theres also taking a last name in SL, example: Jonathon Malaprop

-then- using a titler to do soemthing like Sir Jonathon over your head..

and making your own group with a few like minded folks, maybe with member title 'Knight of the Realm?'

several dozen? yikes. I might be able to get 5 people. Is there a way to request it to be on the main list? The list.. by the way.. is absolutly horrible for role play purposes.

(off topic: maybe every avator should be assigned a 7 diget identifier that can be hidden but seen only in profie? that way someone can call on them but still have the flexability of name choice)

There is extensive discussion on this very topic here:

/20/e6/53959/1.html

LL's latest policies and considerations for future policies on this subject are outlined as well. It seems they are considering opening up custom last names to every one but there are a lot of things to be taken into consideration and it has to be done very carefully to avoid breaking scripts.

Well okay then brush Hamelt's hair and write a book about compelling digital communities interfracing with washing machines on a virtual plain of tachyons. That worked for Doctorow.

If I may extend this thread's lifetime and make a sidestepping question...

Do the last names appear cyclically on the registration page, or is a last name available until max amount of persons have choosen it? The reason I ask is because in January there were at least 3 nifty names, each of them is gone now.

Yes, I'm an optimist...

Ahh, unfortunately, once they're gone, they're gone. I once asked if they could be brought back (I'd like more cousins), and was shouted down by people who felt it was a status symbol to have an old name.

On the bright side, I'm still rooting for "Blingtard" to make the list.

I'd also like to compliment you for using "may" in your comment. You are obviously not reading the forums enough or you'd be more retarded and rude by now.

We are in fact currently researching ways to make 'personalized' last names (as Robin mentions here), you can also read more about this topic here.

I'm with you, Taco! I'm like the last of the OFlynn's and it's bumming me out big time.

If Blingtard ever makes the list, I'm so there!

I so want the last name "vonMonkeybender".

Don't ask, it's an old joke among some of my friends and I.

No but anyways...i think our system is already very flexible.
I don't think people need to be numbered like cows.

We just need a few more decent names.
