Remove L$500 Weekly Stipend?

I have heard Unlimited Lifetime Membership Account holders - people who don't pay anything to do what they do in SL now - complain about the L$500 stipend the rest of us Premium Account Holders get each week. They claim it's "Free Monies" and that it's "Ruining the economy."

I want to know what you all think of removing the stipend from these peoples, and also, if they are not paying any land fees, about charging them land fees, as well, so they know how the rest of us feel about not getting their precious free bonus?

My L$500 weekly stipend isn't free. I pay $72 per year for that money along with the priveledge of being allowed to own land. Those are the only 2 benefits I see of having a premium account in SL.

IMHO neither the Premium, nor Lifetime, Stipend should be taken away.

I pay US$600.00 per year to have my land, and the L$500 a week is a nice little token of their appreciation for my business to me. I have seen, peppered throughout the forums, comments about how bad this "free" weekly L$500 stipend is for the economy. I daresay, $50.00 a month is worth L$16,202 as of this posting. In contrast, the weekly allowance is worth $1.84.

What this means to all those people who are arguing that I'm getting a helluva deal with all this free money that I am getting should be aware that I am in fact horribly shafted. Even if I just traded in those linden dollars, I would get, at best, $7.00 back each month, or 14% of what I put in.

Wow. I'm *so* not paying for my weekly allowance.

What's more, those in higher land tiers get smaller returns on their investments.

Maybe all of those who have the unlimited lifetime accounts should have to pay for their US$7.00 a month in L$'s, as they can't see how us Premium Account Holders are already more than paying for ours.

Stipends? We still get those?

Although, you certainly can't take my land away ;0 I paid big monies for that 3 years ago when no more than 2000 other people were using SL ;0.

My entire company is run by the L$500 that LL gives me every week. The end of Stipends would be the end of many companies/businuesses that do the same thing.

WTF there's free lifetime memberships? Not only do I think those people should not get stipends, but there shouldn't even be those kinds of accounts.

They paid alot of cash up front for lifetime accounts (boosting LLs profits and showing a commitment, offered in thanks for early testing). In return they get 500 L a week (premium stipend) and 4096 m2 'free' teir.

It's an old thing, I believe, for people who were here from the beginning, or nearly so.

I have no problem with it, personally.

Lifetime memberships were not free.. They cost $225 and were offered for a limited time 3 years ago.

These are not people being given anything for free, they've just made a different payment arrangement than yours.

I've only heard a small handful of people say that and frankly a couple of them aren't worth listening to (*coughs "certain freebie seller";). Where did you hear that it was lifetime membership holders saying it?

And I wonder if you even pay land tier? If not, that means that the rest of us - who have to pay up to $200.00 a month in land tier - are all getting royally gypped.

Lynn Kukulcan

Okay, okay, I'm an idiot. But aren't we all, sometimes?

I see they get 4096 meters free tier. Still, that's quite a bit - eight parcels, which would cost $35.00 a month {$25.00 tier, and $10.00 premium} to have. Let me see .... 225 / 35 comes out to 6.4285714285714285714285714285714 months. This does not include the current $7.00 a month they're given just to play around.

So they got they're money back pretty quick.

Ok the lifetime membership plan makes sense.... sure... but knowing LL, they'll surely change the terms of the agreement :O/

they get a larger 'free' teir (4096 m2 instead of 512 m2) but pay for any beyond that. No free islands or whatnot.

I own 16m^2 of land.

No, I don't pay tier on land up to 4096m^2($25 a month). The number of active members with lifetime accounts is probably less than 50. You're not being harmed in any way by this setup.

Linden Lab absorbs the cost.

The only reason you feel you are "getting gypped" is that you weren't here when the offer was made to the others. You're saying they should pay as much as you because you just didn't happen to be around to get in on their deal?

If your next door neighbor moved into his apartment ten years before you did and his rent has stayed the same for ten years, but yours is twice as much because you just recently moved in... is it fair to raise his rent to match yours? Is it his fault you didn't move in the same day he did?

Actually, I'm saying they should pay as much as the rest of us because a lot of these people seem to have lost track of how much the rest of us pays and calls our weekly stipend "Free Money!" when in fact it is not "free."

And I did see SL when it started and offered that lifetime membership, and at the time, I was unable to get the account, but due to other circumstances. It had nothing to do with finances.

You mean to tell me that my $10 membership is paying for my free land (512) only?

Gee, I could have sworn it said somewhere that if I paid that, I would get L$500 a week as well.
