Hamlet's going indy!

http://secondlife.blogs.com/nwn/2006/02/going_indy.html

Best of luck with the new venture, Hamlet! How long until we see Hamlet blasting Linden Lab policies now? :-)

Regards,

-Flip

Congrats Hamlet! Of course, when the book is out, we want it here in SL. And we want an interview event. And a book signing. And a group to discuss it. And we all want you to mention our SL names in your book, with pictures ;)

A startling, brilliant business move!

I look forward to the book.

I hope that just like bloggers everywhere, Hamlet doesn't miss his own journey as an integral part of our collective story...

Well not this brings up an interesting question. Will Linden Lab find a new Linden embedded reporter? Or is this the end of this kind of program?

I don't think they should bother.

The world is too big for a single reported, and things like the Metaverse Messenger do a great job covering a wide gamut of life in SL. And, of course, we have the Herald too! :-)

Just like SL Radio stations! :D

Yet the Lindens may still have some reasons to keep their OWN Linden embedded reporter on contract as well. I was just wondering if they were planning to do this.

Embedded.

*carefully mulls over what this word really means, in context...*

Should we say... "disembedded" now? Perhaps another word? "Detached?"

I sense... comedy here.

Hamlet, while i admit i'm surprised by this development, i'm happy to see that this was a mutual decision on both ends of the spectrum.

good luck on your continuing endeavors.. but, i have to ask, will we know who the new you is? as in, what name you will go by?

and will NWN be getting a new URL?

(by the way, re: "million-users".. any bets on when this will be? i predict by the end of next year we'll be close to, if not surpassing, that mark.. and yes, you can quote me on that, Hamlet.. or whoever you'll be)

and on a more general note, this seems to be in line with LL's train of thought of trying to hand over our world to us, the residents.

Is someone really an embeded reporter if they are on the payroll of the organization they are reporting on?

I used the term "embeded" simply because that was the term often used to describe Hamlet. I think it's even on his web page. I didn't mean for it to be distracting from my main point.

I was just curious if Linden policy on blogging will follow the same pattern as Linden Radio. Essentially a non-competative, Linden-official source of in world information.

What's particularly charmful and lovely here is... and this is a nice piece of trivia... I entered Hamlet Linden as my referrer when I joined Second Life. I had read some NWN earlier, and couldn't think of anyone better. So hearing this as a "reverse Torley", LOLEX, that does make me smile. Hamlet was so nice and agreed to meet me in his office--I ended up seeing him at 4 AM in the snow shortly after, and he was a wild man alright!

Hamlet's always been greatly nice to me. He's a reporter with heart, not that I know many reporters, but I know he has heart.

Actually, some of the things Aimee mentions are really funny, because some time after that, Hamlet was interviewing Aimee in her skybar for a new article, and I came by. And we were in the same place--I was just very quiet! Joke, I know... joke.

SO on this new journey, I wish him the bestest and hope to see him inworld again soooon under his new name. :D
