I was thinking Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil...

Am I right?

You mean you have evidence?

Is a copy of the #secondlife chat log from 5-18-05 or thereabouts considered evidence?

Surely that is available on the web somewhere.

Jack Thompson uses Second Life?

Earlier, my Brother suggested that Jack Thompson closely resembles an exceedingly haggard Jon Stewart.

I soon found this to be true.

A chat log that has nothing to do with this thread at all - and yes, it is available online.

But if we wanna play Captain Kangaroos Court though - then I have to say:

'No it is not evidence'

Because there is no way you can prove its continuity - anyone could edit it from here to there - there is no way that it would stand alone as 'evidence'.

If we wanna play Perry Mason - lets play by the rules.

Have nice day :)

It's peripherally related in that both deal with an attempt by the Lindens to limit the exposure of the SL community to the writings of a certain prominent SL figure.

If Hamlet had removed the link to Joe Nobody's blog, then the chat log would have nothing to do with this thread. However the fact that he removed the link to the blog of the same person whom another LL employee had been gossiping about with certain SL residents in order to figure out a way to get her booted out of the forums makes it more relevant than several other posts in this thread.

I would agree if it weren't for the fact that the LL employee in question publicly admitted to the veracity of the chat log that has been widely circulated.

Thats a seprate issue to a chatlog being 'evidence' - thats him admitting something is true - totally seperate issue.

Would it stand alone? Like I said if we wanna play court lets do it right. THe question wasn't 'is this true' or 'did this transpire' the question was 'is the chatlog evidence?' and I still have to say 'no'.

The claim that this is about the Linden's attempt to limit exposure to Prokofy is quite dubious, that is why the chat log has no relevance. Was there some grand conspiracy here to remove Prokofy's link (in direct violation of that TOS clause that guarantees all of our blogs will be actively promoted by Linden Lab on every web site, blog, park bench, etc..) that somehow relates? Or is it a decision by Hamlet after repeated attacks from Prokofy that he will no longer link to his blog? You can put all the spin you want on it - it plays better that way and gives certain people more license to take a swipe at big bad LL. Accuse away, it's entertaining.

Did anyone ponder to think that because Hamlet is a de facto corporate mouthpiece (sorry Hammie), albeit one with an independent streak, perhaps the Lindens wouldn't want to link to a blog that has very little positive output? Hamlet's blog is usually the first place new folks to SL go to for news or an insight to SL culture; most journalists are sent that link in order to get a better feel for how our community ticks, so they don't type up a "STUPID PEOPLE ON TEH INTARNETZ: ARE THEY RAPING YOUR CHILDREN???" article.

Not convinced?

Let's take some choice quotes from our favorite pro-SL blog:

From: someone

In SL, too, it's a rule of thumb that some of the most arrogant, nasty, authoritarian assholes have also made some of the greatest builds.

From: someone

I don't know all the he-saids and she-saids on this one, but the transcripts I've read of this ridiculous bunch make me realize what lack of lives people have -- and I mean a chronic lack of life that will never be remedied. It reads like a sixth-grade slam book. It's insane. These are babies without any notion of adult comportment.

From: someone

I'll be goddamned -- the Lindens can't get rid of the IMPEACH BUSH sign that devalues our land, drives away customers, harms our ability to rent, sell, or have businesses on our land. They won't touch the biggest fucking nuisance on the SL planet. But they'll get all huffy about some people selling poseballs in the events list because Lordfly and Maxx Monde suffer "eyebleeds" from being unable to sort out building contests. (Here's where Kex Godel should say: Sort>Categories>Art and Culture).

And on and on. In between the multi-page diatribes about how stupid/evil/corrupt/capitalist piggy/horrible Linden Lab, Aimee Weber (seriously, Aimee's name appears no less than 26 times, just on the front page of Prok's blog), the FIC, and the Builderati are, there are veiled personal attacks, paranoid conspiracy theories, arrogant proclamations (proklamations?), amazing hypocracy, and stunning ignorance.

Yes, we should absolutely plaster her blog all over the internets, because that's how we would get people to try out SL; show the world how fucking insane we are.

Your favorite conspirator,

LF

Is that some 24 reference? You know I don't watch that show because of my weird fixation with watching Geena Davis contort her face in different ways to try to look presidential.

Jack Thompson was an ambulance-chaser-laywer who turned his sites on the video game industry. He's become famous for viciously attacking a number of game companies with forum-style arguments, using constant ad hominem, refusing to give any ground in a debate, and often using poorly-based points as facts or conspiracy theory outright lies.

Him and Prokofy would be best of friends I'm sure.

Furthermore, as Second Life goes to the Metaverse, and this becomes an open platform, Linden Lab risks lawsuit in court and [attachment culling] will, I repeat WILL be reverse in court.

That sort of makes it sound like he has dissapeared. As of four days ago he is still alive and well.
