Are they keeping you down? Is there something you want to say and you can't say it in the forum? Why SHOULD you be able to say whatever you want in the LL forums?

This is the internet, not the USA. You have no right to free speech.

I start seeing another thread going off topic because of this question. It's an okay question but it needed it's own thread.

You enjoy being dismissive don't you? Try thinking before posting.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." - First Amendment, Constitution of the United States

The key word here is "Congress"

In privately owned forums you have no right to free speech. Deal with it.

Exactly. If LL wanted, they could delete posts because they just plain don't like you personally.

Yep, This is all owned by the company, the company makes the rules. Hence no free speech, sure they let people say a lot of things, but they can at an moment clamp down on it and do what they want.

Nope. LL is all about free speech.

Go to any street corner in your city and yell until your horse. LL will NOT stop your voicing your opinions on anything you like.

Now here, in their house? You have about as much free spech as you would have in mine. Let's see how long you would last speaking poorly of my wife in my own home, shall we?

You'd bounce when you hit the curb. I kid you not.

You want to have free speech, start your own forum. It's how I did it.

This is the private forum of a company - they can control speech however they wish.

I get to say everything I want to say because I know what's the appropriate way to say it.

This despite the fact that this is Linden Lab's message board, a private board, and they have the right to censor anything they want.

Those who wish to say stuff not allowed in these forums but to an SL audience can just go to forums.sluniverse.com or forums.secondcitizen.com, among other venues.

There are also places like SL member's blogs that have mini-forums, and http://www.secondlifeherald.com

Plus of course one can get free webspace and free forums and free blogs and attempt to get people to read their views there.

Why do people on here end their posts with "Deal with it"? Doesn't make sense.

Sorry. made and announcment ages ago, but it got lost. I had to stop paying for the server due to it not being profitable on multiple levels. I was basically funneling money into it with no return. I tried renting it out at break even prices, and it still would not go.

Guess that's the problem marketing to a group used to getting things for free. Either that or I have a poor grasp of advertising and commerce. Take your pick.

Honestly, the three words tagged onto the end of a post just make no sense to me.

I don't know of many companies that allow the types of criticism of their business and business practices on their own forums as LL does - and LL allows most of them to stay open.

Aodhan has hit the nail squarely on the head here. Say whatever you want, just use socially acceptable forms of communication. When posting on any forum, I try to imagine myself in a real life conversation, and write accordingly. Relying on internet anonymity is weak and childish. Maturity calls for controlling your tone and words such that no one feels the need to moderate your speech. It's totally doable, but it means you have to think carefully about your words before firing off a post. And by "you" I don't mean the OP, I mean the collective you/we. :)

Hmmm Im 5^1 in heels, weigh 110 lbs when still wet straight out the shower.. yet I have to watch women strut around with legs that go up to what lil breast I have and a booty ya can leave a glass of sangria on. What can I do about the unfairness in life? I can "deal with it" or go hide under my hello kitty comforter and cry. Maybe they say it cause in life when ya dont like something ya got no power over, have run out all other options... option D is dealing with it...

Make sense now?

<tried to edit for spelling, figured what the hell.... its the internet and spelling doesnt count, gave up>

Note that it is and always has been completely impossible for any forum moderator or any corporation to deny you your free speech. You have every bit as much right to create your own web site, install your own forum software on your own computers, and post your own views on it as they do on theirs.

Can they stop you from using their computers and storage for storing your views? Certainly. They have as much right to control their own property as you do to control yours. But that doesn't in any way deny you your free speech...

Actually, you can say it until you're blue in the face for all anyone cares. You just can't store it on someone else's computer without their permission.
