Should the Vehicle Park be restored, or should the SL3B stuff stay there?

From: Huns Valen I asked Torley about it in IM and was told that the next event (July 15) is something by Katt Kongo, and after that Relay for Life, although that may be put somewhere else as they seem to want more sims. We won't be using the vehicle sims this year. Looks like we're getting 12 island sims.

From: Huns Valen I am really trying to see the benefit of leaving it as-is until the 15th. For every day between now and the 15th, how many people are going to see it who haven't already, vs. how many vehicle park users would like to be able to use the park to its fullest, who have patiently gone without it for weeks? And then, of course, this next event will roll in, and we'll have to wait for that to finish. Given the poor performance of vehicles in SL, which surprised me somewhat, could it be that LL is simply giving notice of where their priorities lie? After all, it must be a lot easier and cheaper to let volunteers organise events than to employ programmers to sort out in world physics and border crossings?

From: Zak Escher I would like to see the vehicle sims restored as soon as possible. However, I also wish that LL would dedicate 6 sims ONLY for special events. That way people could continue to visit the event locations even after the events are over. Last I checked the New Orleans sim was still standing..not complete, but standing.

This pisses me off to no end. They do this every frickin' time, and I'm sick of it.
As for the person who suggested they give us new vehicle sims - how about no? How about, the vehicle sims are perfectly located as is? Between the Sandboxes and Bens, so you can work on vehicles in the sandbox, or buy them at bens, and use them easily.

From: Inigo Chamerberlin Given the poor performance of vehicles in SL, which surprised me somewhat, could it be that LL is simply giving notice of where their priorities lie? I don't think it's quite so systemic, nor that it has anything to do with vehicles in particular. It isn't that LL is unaware (they are - several of them), and it isn't that LL doesn't give a damn about vehicles. It's just that whoever is responsible for this considers the desires of a few to be enormously (by a margin of, at the moment, 6.8:1) more important than what is demonstrably in the greater public interest. It is an example of the road to Hell being paved with good intentions. From: Reitsuki Kojima This pisses me off to no end. They do this every frickin' time, and I'm sick of it. That's the other thing. They keep doing this again and again. Ususally it's just that no one gets around to cleaning it up, but this time they're being so obstinate about it.

Hi, just wanted to post in here about the broader problem: the long rollback window after an event happens, which is often many times the length of the actual rented event. I've seen this myself, and yes, historically, have experienced frustration--also as a vehicle enthusiast. So I do give a damn. On the whole, the vehicle regions aren't rented out a lot, the rental periods tend to be for 3-4 days, and it's usually a fraction (2 or 3) of the regions, not all 6 as is specifically the case with SL3B. Also, some of the previous rentals have actually been for vehicle-specific events and showcases. The rental policy info is here: http://secondlife.com/community/land-rental.phpUnderstanding the need for efficiency here, what I vow to do is this: in the future, if there's overhanging slop, just email me personally, torley@lindenlab.com, and I'll check what's up, do my best to help get things moving faster with my fellow Lindens, and let you know. I'm also checking to see if any further accomodations can be made--we are prepared to change and adapt. Connected to that, along what Huns mentioned earlier, I've suggested if we could have a better way to track active usage of the vehicle regions when they're back to normal, and certainly, the idea of a dedicated staging area for rented events is worth floating if we get heavily booked in the future. I've taken a keen interest in this. Apologies for the grrr factor--I just wanted to communicate.

While the intention and vow are noble, does this mean that support@secondlife.com or Second Life Answers are not the "correct" places to get Linden attention? Put another way, Are you trying to make it sound as if private, back-channel communications is the most efficient way to effect change? If so, wouldn't ombudsman@secondlife.com be more appropriate? Or is this just an affirmation that there is only one person at LL who cares what the customers think? Please understand that I'm explicitly not faulting you for your generous offer, I'm simply noting that it seems like an admission that "proper channels" are broken and ineffectual.

From: Introvert Petunia ombudsman@secondlife.com Is this a real address? What's it for? From: someone Please understand that I'm explicitly not faulting you for your generous offer, I'm simply noting that it seems like an admission that "proper channels" are broken and ineffectual. I can't speak for Torley but I'd guess it's an issue with people who answer that address not being able to know every last thing about SL. This is a common challenge for any organization that has to manage something really complex.

Oh no, this isn't the case. ;0 Support-related stuff goes to support@secondlife.com. Torley-related stuff goes to torley@lindenlab.com. I've personally committed to pay attention to this, and it is a community issue, and I'm on the Community Team, and I think it's important. So, keeping it simple, yeah. And I am a "proper channel". To clarify more: I field--and respond, as best I can, given my current state of hurty hands--a medley of mixed issues that don't fit better with another address. And if I need help from another Linden or another department, I'll forward it to them anyway. So one way or another, I'll be sure it gets to the right place.

Here's an update on traffic.
SL3B area: Bethel - 291 Brilliant - 389 Georgean - 1630 Fortuna - 47 -------------------- Average - 589.25 Change from last time - Down 80.25
Usable vehicle sims: Fame - 1394 Balance - 1509 -------------------- Average - 1451.5 Change from last time - Down 18.5
Ratio of respondents in favor of getting rid of the SL3B stuff to not in favor: 7.45:1
If I were to obstruct others' fair use of the vehicle park for weeks on end, I'd probably get banned. Frankly it's disappointing that this has been allowed to go on as long as it has.
