ok so i try siva for the first time the other night and had over 16 k in there.. I knew it was too good to be true.. but I transfered it to a friend of mine.. and yeh nothing.. but my siva still has an account of 0... am i missing something? any idea what this money was supposed to be for??

It was stated somewhere, ahwile ago, that you diddn't really get to keep the money. In regular SL anyway.
The only thing I can think of tho is textures. Seein as I couldnt go to any stores the few times I tried Siva. |

yeh well i never read that.. i was just surprised.. i think though that the money you do get there is based on the age of your avi.. but i wonder.. where did my money go to? and if there is a way to get it back.. because if it didn't go to my friend.. it should have been returned to me so i could use my 16 k and upload textures.. wonder if you could then xfer those?

One, you probably gave it to your friend's account on the preview grid.
Two, all money had on the preview grid as well as objects created/purchased/etc there do not transfer to the main grid. Ever. You can't buy money on the preview grid either, its a static economy. _____________________

anybody know the answer on what happened to my money from the preview grid? The money on the preview grid stays on there  You can not transfer anything over nor money to the main grid. If you give your money away.. then your out of luck_____________________

Regardless, you posted a personal attack against her after she made a short, concise and helpful post. There was no need to do that. The preview grid is for testing. You have money there so you can test things that require money. Better for LL to throw big piles of temporary cash around on the testing grid than have everyone at 0L so testing is crippled. |

If you don't have tier or a premium account on the date the Preview Grid is taken from, then you can't buy land. Since the preview grid has no affect on the main grid, you can often ask a friend to include you in their land group so you have a place to build.
Otherwise, the preview grid cash can be used to buy land, purchase things from stores, textures & other uploads. People go to the preview grid not as a substitute for when the main grid is down, but to test new features and ideas. Also, it's a great time to preview people's products. Some content creators will set all their prices to $1 on the preview grid so that visitors have a chance to try things risk free. This of course depends on them having a store or land in the preview grid area. _____________________

The "Preview Grid" (a.k.a. SecondLife Siva) is very much like a "Test Server" for a traditional MMO. (If you haven't played MMOs before, don't worry) This Test Server or Preview Grid is completely 100% separate from the World/Server/Grid that customer's use. They may copy data from the main World and put it into the Preview Grid for testing, but it's just a copy and not real. ANd most likely anything you do in a Test Server or Preview Grid will be erased when the new changes go Live.
The purpose of a Test Server, or Preview Grid in this instance, is for the developers (Linden Labs in our case) to be able to test large changes in a live environment before making those changes to the World/Server/Grid that everyone uses. SecondLife 1.9.1 is what is on the Preview Grid now, and it has some big changes that really need to be tested to be sure that it won't cause problems. What does LL get out of it? They get a more complete test. Systems like SecondLife are so complex that it is actualy impossible to test everything. Some think all you have to do is click each button and see if it works. But What happens if you click This Button and then That Button? Or if Three people click it at the same time? Or what if one person has only 512M RAM and another has 2GB? Or... The combination of factors are endless. By using a Preview Grid, they can get many people with many different computers and viewpoints to try and find the bugs. What do YOU get out of it? If you don't build/script/texture, you get to try out the new changes before they are finalized. Most people do not use the test servers, so you'll get a sneek peek at what's comming up. Also, if you just want to help out, you cna do your best to find bugs and problems, and then report them to LL so they they will hopefully get fixed. If you do create, then you can try out any new functions/building tools/etc before they go live and make new things with them. Then when the new changes are made to the World, you knwo exactly how to work with the tools, and you probabaly already have a couple designs already to go. You can quickly recreate them in the live world and have the available to your customers immediately, getting a jump on your competition. |
