You know, making polls is such a bummer, because you KNOW that no matter how hard you try, you're going to leave out at least one obvious option! Nonetheless, here are the options: 1. I like the stipends as they are: $50 for basic members, and $500 for premium accounts. 2. The stipends should stay as they are, but we shouldn't be getting as much. 3. The stipends should stay as they are, but we should get more. 4. Keep the basic stipend, but eliminate the premium stipend. 5. Keep the premium stipend, but eliminate the basic stipend. 6. Keep both stipends, but make the premium higher, and/or the basic lower, or vice versa. 7. Eliminate both stipends. Whew - surely that covers all the bases. coco

There's no 'Other' option. Like 'Badgers are awesome.'

I think they should stay, for now. If SL's platform eventually goes to be open-source, and the browser of the future? Then I'd say we'd need something more along the lines of a PayPal/eBay to deal with commerce across the platform... perhaps removing L$ completely and just dealing in RL currencies.

-Flip

Indeed. Once we're looking at an open platform, the complimentary currency model we use now will fall by the wayside. Currently, the amount of stipend currency grows at a fixed rate with each new resident account created. I think scaling the currency supply in this fashion is a safe bet. For the time being, stipends are a good idea and have limited potential for abuse if Linden Lab watches account creation closely. I'm not sure I can think of a better way to scale and pace the currency supply than we've already got. With the bonuses and other money flooders out of the way, I think we're in good shape.

So far, I'm satasfied with the status quo stipend wise, but I am not an economist.

I just don't see the benefits that come from DI, and haven't over the whole debate. (Or, rather, don't see that the benefits outweigh the incessant gaming of it.) It's not fun. You don't get DI for being, or having, fun.
edit: ah hell, should probably not have started that one again

That's a really neat idea, Magnum! You're really full of neat ideas! This one is my favorite neat idea, though: From: Magnum Serpentine I feel that even in the Real world everything should be free. We can get Robots and computers to make everything. And computers can be designed to repair themselves. I like robots!

I also voted to have them stay as they are, but I have said before. The biggest constant in SL is that there are no constants. Times change, things change, have to live with them

Magnum, PLEASE buy this book: Economics for Dummies Its actually quite a good book from quite a good series. To quote the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...in case you don't get the satire, its a reference to money growing on trees (thus the LEAF being legal tender): "The Golgafrinchans' management consultant tried to arrange the meetings of the colonization committee along the lines of a traditional committee structure, complete with a chair and an agenda. He was also in charge of fiscal policy, and decided to adopt the leaf as legal tender, making everyone immensely rich. In order to solve the inflation problem this caused, he planned a major deforestation campaign to effectively revalue the leaf by burning down all the forests." Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy contains many, many other gems that everyone could learn from as well. Regards, -Flip
