Getting started making L$ how?

I think I'm going to spend a bit more time exploring.

Got bored while the server was down for maintenance so I made my first texture for some hair I picked up yesterday. I think I might re-skin my wings next. Start slowly and just modify the items in my inventory.

Rosalita, something no one seems to have mentioned is teaching. Your knowledge of Photoshop could help a lot of other people in SL, and you'd be paid for teaching them. There are a few 'schools' that you can work with if you don't have land. The most active one is TeaZer University (on TeaZer Isle) but I know there are others.

One place to read up a bit on teaching would be the instructors and education forum.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned (unless I've missed it) the Web stores. There'sSecond Life Exchange, Second Life Boutique, and I think one or two more (Second Server, maybe?). I know the first two just charge commissions on purchases.

There are also some malls that charge commissions on purchases, but not rent. This may be better for you while you're starting out, particularly if you're on a basic account -- a lot of the places advertising cheap rent are not cheap if you've only got a guaranteed income of L$50 per week. (Particularly if you're making textures and uploading them. Those $50 can go by very, very fast.)
