From: Vares Solvang FIC = Fetid Inner Core. Back when SL was very new there were a group of content providers that worked very closely with the Lindens to develop SL. Many thought they had too much power and that they served only their own interests and didn't care about what was best for SL in general. Hence the name coined by the conspiracy theorists. Heh, sounds like a movie plot. Did they all have rings and LL have THE one ring?

Fic is short for Fiction. The Fic is all around us... You can see it when you build. Or when you dance ina a strip club. Its the essence of what shapes the world. I know this, cuz some brother in a trenchcoat with a gun told me.

Be that as it may, it's way more fun to piss and moan about the injustice of it all.

IF you ever have checked a profile and where it usually lists account status as "Resident" for the Fettid Inner Core it would be replaced with "Charter"
How did they get this to be?
It was explained to me that at a pivital point in Second Life's existance Linden Labs offered for a very short time the availability of a Charter Membership. These Charter members are given a FREE 1024 sq meter piece of land instead of the normal 512 sq meters normal premium account holders get.
They helped out Linden Labs at a time it was needed most back in SL's infancy.
Do they get special or preferencial treatment? Who knows. Maybe.. I don't care honestly. I know if charter membership were offered today I'd become one. I like what Linden Labs created and want to see it thrive.
It's generally jealous people who bring up the fact FIC gets preferencial treatment. and while some Charter members actualy DO look at all of us as pieces of shit, it's not generally the overall view from the majority of FIC.
Is FIC an actual club? *shrugs* I don't know if they banded together to form a secret group *cough*freemasons*cough* but again, it doesn't matter to me. I simply don't care if they did or didn't.
How powerful are the FIC? Well, not powerful enough to stop the nosediving value of the Linden $ *giggles*
Anyhow.. that's what was explained to me when I first came to Second Life.

From: Gabe Lippmann It is who you need it to be at any given moment. Whoever sold more fake dorks than you. Whoever got a cheap land deal. Whoever was featured in a media story. Whoever you think is more popular than you. Whoever people complemented publicly for doing nice work. Whoever got something you didn't. Whoever didn't get a warning. Whoever didn't have their post locked. Etc, Etc. I really like you, Gabe. You must be FIC.

From: Juro Kothari Do you honestly think that eveyone at LL gets to make the 'big' decisions? My bet is that big policy changes are made by a few of the executive staff and not all the worker bees - as is the case with most companies.
I'm also willing to bet that if there are any LL employees who actively play on a regular account, they are under much more intense scrutiny than you or I - specifically to squash any cries of foul from us. Im going with Juro on this because, LL has the ability to aquire your IP and I am sure they have the IP's of all there employees work and home pc's. So what if somebody gets special treatment? Buck up and get better stop trashing people in teh forums, practice your building, script, and what ever else makes SL fun for people and maybe, just maybe one day you can and will be rewarded with a lil special treatment!

I've already been rewarded by special treatment. And I rejected it.

From: Cocoanut Cookie There has to be a conflict of interest, in one way, even if there is no preferential treatment and the rules and guidelines are the same. And that is because they are also the ones making the rules, and setting policy, and making decisions regarding the fate of other residents.
omg. get out more.
