998 People in SL While Grid is Down

According to the SL home page there are 998 people in world right now. When I try to log on I'm told that SL is currently restricted to LL employees. Does LL actually have that many employees?

Or is there a glitch in how the numbers are determined on the SL home page? Are those numbers inaccurate? I've always had major doubts about the "Money spent today" figure. Maybe I'll stay up real late and see how much money is reported just after midnight game time.

The Grid is currently closed to new log ons, the 998 People you see in there are probably camping chair zombies afk or in bed unaware anything is happening.

When the grid "went down" with the J. Stein attack I was on the whole time even though theoretically the grid was "down." At the low point there were 350 people inworld and I was one of em. It was weeiirrd!

I'm in teamspeak with a couple who are still in world -- but not able to do anything really -- no scripts running, just a ghost town of sorts.

I know that when the grid is down, a lot of that stuff is inaccurate. I've gone to the "Friends Online" web page before and seen people on who I know were kicked off along with me (since I'm talking to them in Yahoo Messanger at the time). I think when the grid is down, it fails to update a lot of that stuff until it's back online.

When the grid crashes, the website info gets borked at times. During the last attack it showed several of my friends were still in-world, but when I asked them via AIM or Yahoo IM's what was happening, they said that they were not actually in SL.

When I first tried to log on and was told the grid was down I went to the SL home page and it said that there were 209 people online. Now it says 998. Is the reporting script borked only during grid outages or is it always borked?

Hi, I'm in the game but I was in when they took log-ins down. And yeah not too long ago they disabled all scripts in the game as well as money transactions. So theoretically the money spent display on the website shouldn't change.

I should probably go ahead and log out but this is the first time I've ever been in game when something like this happened so I'm sitting it out while I do rl stuff lol.

Myself, my Partner and another family member are all still in SL. We were on a private island that was not attacked.

Looking at the grid the mainland has 0 green dots looks to be the same for Dreamland and the southern continent. There are a few green dots on scattered islands. The number on the homepage is probably right (or close).

Scripts are disabled, IM doesn't work, tp is hopeless, find is not working and I am not even going to try to rez anything.

I was in the entire time and just logged out. I was in when the system message announced that all scripts were disabled, but stayed. So weird.

Is it possible its the Teen Grid? I heard the Registered Account number is accounts on the Main AND Teen grid, so maybe the logged in number is shared too?

Most likely, the ones in-world are on private islands, and were logged in before the grid went down.

Well, one of my friends and I were in the same spot when the grid went down. Just seems strange she's still there and I'm not. Oh well. Times like this make me realize I shouldn't take SL for granted :D

No its not

When they logged everyone out for an attack a few days ago, it was down to 4 people then 10.

I think its totally unfair that some people get to remain in Second Life, while the majority do not. It is evedient that favorites were allowed to log in (For what purpose I have no clue since you can't really do anything there) but going from 300 to 900 is extremely suspicious.

I'm still connected, though I can't do much. I think those avatars who were not killed off by the self-replicators were able to remain connected (like me). Scripts are disabled, and it appears that uploads purposely timeout.

PS: In light of the post, above, no preferential treatment here. I was afk when the attack hit, and my sim appears to have been spared.

No favorite here...

This kajira was in the City of Venna shopping, grid went down and I did not go, nothing works, but like a previous poster, just staying and looking around at stuff in detail that I have not seen.

Not a favorite, just lucky I guess...

Oh well, they just haven't sent out a forced log out then. Some are just lucky then huh? :)
