Your notion that if you do it in a game then it wont 'repercuss' in to RL, is utter hogwash.

If you do it in the game, you're feeding it, and youll be more likely to want too and to do it in reality.

WOW! You are SO RIGHT!!! Just yesterday I tried flying up in the air then Teleporting to work! Today I received a package from UPS & immediately stuck the box on my head. And last week I was going around the nightclub clicking on people's bums trying to dance with them.

What's your point? You can't fly irl but you can have sex.

Disclaimer: I'm only addressing the logic of your argument here, not the likelihood of behavior acted out in SL being repeated irl.

I never disagreed that sex is a basic human function, i disagreed that sex is THE MOST basic human function. The difference was important only in the prior context of Coalcliffs argument regarding the affect on real life desires enacted through the second life medium and wether or not that would have a bearing on the strenght of those same desires carrried over in to real life. I was basically trying to suggest without being too explicit and therefore rude, that his idea that sex is the most Basic human function, is incorrect and probably the result of his notion that if you fullfill your fantasies in a game they wont spill over into reality.

That said, your idea that age play is akin to playing school girl and teacher in the privacy of your own bedroom, did make me think... i hadn't considered it from that angle before...aren't forums usefull!

However upon reflection, Its not the same at all.

A simple thought experiment will surely make you agree,

If people had the power to change the age of their RL bodies at will, then those teacher/student privacy of your own room games could take on an added dimension comparable to whats possible in SL.

How would you vote on that, would you let people in real life turn themselves into kids to have consenting sex with adults? No of course, surely you would be encouraging unhealthy appetites in people. This activity would of course be severly frowned upon, i think ! , wouldnt it ?, Again Wheres the difference?

And another thing. those student/teacher games are played in the PRIVATE of the bedroom. Nothing about SL is private. Again we ought ot be safeguarding against the spread of these unhealthy appetites and ideas. The bedroom at home doesnt have the same concerns for this as does SL.

I disagree, in biology the definition of a successful organism is reproduction. Thus it would make sex the most important function. However since we don’t reproduce sexually in SL it is not the most important function *grin*

In real life, I'd say that breathing was more important... that continues existing life, sex merely creates new life.

I don't see why SL should be any different from RL; they're both populated by humans, regardless of the costumes. And it goes all ways. I remember when someone building a church in SL was told point blank by an established resident that religion didn't "belong" here. People have opinions on what other people should do.

I do suspect it's only a matter of time until the sex industry in SL is a problem for Linden Lab. You know those stings on TV where they lure a guy through chat rooms to a house to meet an underage person for sex, then confront him? Or all those stories about predators on MySpace? It just seems like sooner or later a reporter's going to decide the convenient fluff piece on SL is no longer "Gee whiz you can make real money off fake stuff", and instead do a story on "Holy crap, your child is making real money having fake sex with a real adult dressed as a raccoon." I'm just saying, I think SL only seems like it's insulated from the rest of RL cause the rest of RL hasn't been paying much attention yet.

ok, yeah, perhaps i didn't make myself clear enough...

somehow, all sex posts go back to the whole child role-plyaing fiasco.
I WASN'T ADRESSING PEDOPHILIA IN SL

how does it always relate to child pornography in SL? when i posted this, i was referring to SL sex in general.
People slam AV sex, SL escorts, and SL orgies for absolutely no reason, and yet all you pervs can think of is child porno.

You need to think a little bit broader...

Sex is a lot like air. You really don't think about it too much unless you're not getting any.

Safegaurd from who? No one has ever proved that playing a game with sex or violence leads to RL activities. What you are suggesting is people don't have the capacity to separate fantasy and RL, speak for yourself there. You don't speak for me.

Personally I wasn't talking about pedophilia, I was talking about children using unverified accounts on the adult grid. The original post pointed out that SL is lawless in regards to sex, and I just wonder about the eventual consequences.

This is the reason we can ban them! It weeds out most of the children, if we have to make it payment infomation used only.
I think that policeman are posing as children and then trying to get the perps to come to a real life meeting. Then they will be arrested!
I dont like to hang out too much around "sex" in second life because it gives my husband ideals :p
