I've looked all over the world last night and this afternoon for a piece of land that suits my needs, but I can't find one anywhere.
All I want is a quiet place, on the mainland, not a huge swathe of land but a small plot (513 - 1024 sqm) surrounded by tasteful builds and cool people. Can someone help me find one? PM me on here or reply on the thread.
Cheers.

All depends what you're looking for...... flat, sloped, snow, grass, beach, waterside, roadside etc etc.
What sort of thing do you plan to do on this land? If you haven't bought land previously, as a new user you are entitled to "First Land", a 512 sq m plot at a subsidised price, which you can find availability through the Find > Land option, and selecting "first land".

God, no. That was a parody thread that ended up moved into the sandbox. As for the land, I'd like something a bit bigger than a 512, which is why I searched for >= 513sqm in the search box. But it's still a bit difficult to find anything. I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the direction of some existing communities or groups of people who'd settled in an area and made it nice.

Doing basic premium thing is a waste in SL right now. The 512m land that you get free with 117 or so prims is just not enough to put anything cool on it, not to mention it's in ghetto first land area. The best thing to do right now, is take the 9 or 7 dollars and convert it to Lindens and rent a bigger spot on a nicer land/private island. There are many that would work with that amount of L$.

Well that's one opinion. I both "rent" (actually "own," some call it "lease" a big spot on the nice Azure Islands, and also have a shop on the mainland, and a building area there. I've lived on Azure for over a year (actually been with those landowners since they started), and had my shop for about a year. I started out in Rosieri with - guess what - a 512. It was First Land. I gradually moved on from there, acquiring more land as the sim population shifted and changed. You gotta start somewhere! It wasn't as easy as buying one big glom piece all at once, and the way it's ended up, I have three land spots there, not all next to each other. That could be avoided by buying a premium, getting your free 512, hopefully selling it, buying plenty of Lindens, and then using them to buy a large contiguous piece of land somewhere. I didn't want to do that, though. For one thing, I really had no idea at that time how much land I would end up wanting. Plus I absolutely did not want to buy Lindens. So this method worked out well for me. I liked the way the land looked where I got my 512. Since then, there have been better times in Rosieri and worser times. A worser time was when we had a couple of clubs that kept the sim very laggy all the time, and that lasted several months. Now, though we are back to better times. Sometimes just sticking with something works out pretty well, especially if you want something not rented, and if you aren't wealthy irl. coco

How renting worked fine for me a while back.
I rented on Nunki Kai island (great management), it's a private island with themed houses/apartments/beach houses. I was renting their large size buildings.
The apartment itself was on 1024 land, they give 300 free prims to use, they also provide a good looking apartment building which is not counted in the prim useage.
This all comes to 700 L a week.
So a month that's around 2800L and sure beats the basic premium thing. There are many other such rentals in SL, currently I'm in for a 4096 land and that somehow becomes even when renting from a landowner or buying land/tier from LL (if you find a good land deal). The only issue here being LL land would be on mainland and thus you'd be at the mercy of your neighbors.

But if you are new, and so are they - you may find that a neighbour or two will become a close, longtime friend. Common interests and all that. Some of my best times in Second Life were spent in a First Land area, and I'll never forget those days. With mainland, it's a bit harder to predict what your neighbour (or the person moving in next week) will do, but there *are* relatively stable areas.

If you decide renting might be for you I highly reccomend Hiro Queso. He has the sims with space in his profile picks I believe.

Fully agree, when I started in First Land, none of us could build really well, and the best builds were the prefabs. But what mainly came out of it were the contacts and friends. I'm not there anymore, but I still keep in contact with some.
