I met a fairly new avatar today and was speaking with him about SL and designing as he had a few questions. So during the conversation, I belted out a few LOL's as some of us do after a sentence or two.
Well later he told me that it's abusive to say that. He said that he found it offensive after a sentence.
Not sure what planet he lives in, but I never in my life heard anyone say something so ignorant.
I asked him if was a cultural thing or a personal preference, but he did not answer.
Does anyone else find LOL to be offensive? Next thing you know ppl will start filing Abuse Reports on ppl for saying "LOL" after their sentences.

I limit my use of "LOL" to when I am actually LOLing. Of course most people didn't believe I was actually LOLing this much until I started showing up on podcasts and radio
 So the truth is out...Aimee is in stitches most of the time!LOL! _____________________

I find LOL annoying, particularly if it's over-used. Once in a while, fine. But some people use it damn near as punctuation, which really bugs me. Well yes. Some people definitely overuse it. C'mon team, get with the emotes - "/em chuckles", "/em laughs heartily", "/em thanks God she wore her corset, for she fears her sides have split". I could see an argument that LOL was annoying, but it isn't in the slightest bit offensive once you realize it's simply an acronym for "laughs out loud"

LOL isn't offensive to me, but it can be annoying. Remember, it's "laugh out loud". And anyone who speaks to you in real life with sudden loud bursts of laughter ("I went to the mall with my friends LAUGH!"
 will just seem insane or extremely annoying.When I see LOL at the end of a sentence that involves nothing funny, it grates on me. It's like a physical attack. Person: I like tv LOL! Me: *falls backwards out of his seat from the force of the LOL* Musuko. |
