Get Gender Verified?

I dunno, Meringue, it seems to me from this post and some of your others that you're really worked up about this topic, which to my understanding says a whole lot more about you than it does about anyone else.

Maybe I'm just perplexed. If someone presented themselves as Methodist but turned out to be Baptist, would it matter? What if they were Buddhist? If a person on SL said she (assume for argument it is a genetic woman) wore a size 4 but in reality she wears size 14, would you get upset?

Part of the beauty of SL for many is that they *don't have to be* who they are in their first life. So, I guess, if like-minded people want to do gender verification with you, OK, but understand that there will be many who wont.

Two Points:

Its offrensive to TGs to group them in with guys who cant get girls too easy to they have to pretent to be "lesbian" *giggles* TGs, in case you dont know consider themselves to be FemaleGender but Male Sex.

I have nowhere suggested anything to do with sexuality, so again, loose the agression. Im sure a gay man would be perturbed if he had a loving gay reloationship with a woman.

Actually, here is a third point. Its not about gender, sexually, sex or anything, its about trust in relationships.

I wouldnt say I am worked up. I would just like there to be a system that people cpould use if and only if I wanted to. Im very tolerant, very very comfortable with my sexuality and gender and perfectly happy to get involved in any short term sense with any AVI.

However, I think SL is the most awesome and promising online social system in existance. It is facinating. It is wonderfull. It is the future. Evryone seems happy with age verificaion, I personaly would like there to be a peer run system of gender verification - for those who want to use it.

Trust is what happens when you... .guess what? TRUST each other. 'Verification' is the exact opposite of trust. It says to the other person 'I do not trust you. I want proof'.

I am hereby announcing my species verification system. You know to make sure those who say they are foxes, shrimp, humans, aliens, mecha, etc. can assure others that they are indeed what they say they are.

Next week I will roll out height assurance services to be followed in junuary with my eyue colour verification process.

As I understand it (and I could be wrong) age verification exists for legal issues: ie, we don't want little Johnny using mommy's credit card to have avvie sex with one of the grownups. I don't see any such legal issues when it comes to gender on SL.

I guess my big gripe with what you propose is that there is a potential to be exclusionary:

"What? You refuse to participate? You must be lying, therefore you are shunned."

That sort of thing.

Whats the point? the only place it really matters is in sex. If its a casual hook-up then chances are you haven't spoken to the person, and aren't going to speak to the person before and fater you hook up. If its something else, the you really should know if your trust the person before it goes any farther.

Do you know what prompted me to put up my other poll? I wanted to see the extent to which the freedom we enjoy as avatars is something people would want for real if they could have it. Don't take away our freedoms just because some homophobes are afraid they'll fantasize over the "wrong" thing.

In real life, I'm a female pony. I have always wanted to role play as a human being...so fun to be able to walk on two legs and not be forced to use an open air bathroom all the time. And these things you call hands, how very interesting indeed....

To each their own. I think it would be best if we would just let people be whomever or whatever they want to be during the time they are in SL. I personally try to relate to others at face value as they present themselves to me, and try to forget about the social classifications and stigmas of RL.

I have never been an intolerant person by any means, but I do have to say that my time in SL has indeed taught me to become more understanding of others who might be *OMGZ* different from me.

I do also understand the issue of trust to those who are concerned about what lies beyond SL. But it seems to me that authentic trust would be much better dealt with on an individual to individual basis, rather than through some verification group.

And do you? This is a far more interesting topic. Someone start a poll on what body parts you control SL with? And more importantly, would you feel degraded if you found out the person who built your home did so with their penis? Especially if their avatar was a girl?!
