Hello, Under "Account History" ...

What does "group liability" mean? And how do I make it go away? lol

Thanks in advance.

Leave the group that's costing you money. This is probably a parcel directory fee on land shared by a particular group.

I may be wrong, but I think it's when a group you belong to that owns land and advertises on Find menu ($30 a week), but doesn't meet the amount of dwell needed to cover the cost of the Find ad. It's a complicated formula to figure out dwell, but anyway, if your group land is listed in Find and not making enough in dwell, LL takes a portion of that $30L from group members, based on how many members of the group there are.

To stop getting the liability hit, leave the group.

The odd liability is preferable to belonging to a group that spam IMs all the damn time. Those are the ones I leave.

Indeed, it is a suble balance betwen the two. I don't mind chatter at all on group chat, often it is fun to chat with folks you haven't met yet and organise stuff with. However, the groups that just spam "TODAY ONLY: DJ DeeJay Guy live every monday tuesday and thrusday 3 AM SL time! TP Pzkthx" are the ones I leave ASAP.

I'm not sure which one of you who responded to my original question is hated by *edited*, but I am now too, so apparently theres a whole new 'group liability' which I was unaware of.

I just got told by *edited* that this was a 'nasty post'. And got told that I'm very demanding...etc...

He also refered to one the responders as 'the biggest **shole" ...

So I'm guessing this has more to do with something that existed long before I even started playing the game....but since *edited* told me to come to the boards and 'bitch'...some more...

Here I am...

Apparently this question I asked offended him personally, though I don't see how because I didn't even mention his name or his group name. All I did was ask why I was getting a group liability charge and joked about making it go away.

I also committed an earlier offense by saying Hello on the group IM. Which I was promptly scolded for IN THE GROUP IM. If I made such a huge mistake by posting there, why didn't *edited* tell me in private IM what I had done wrong rather then make yet another post in the group IM to tell me that I should not be doing that!

I didn't leave the group then, and maybe I should have. I didn't realize that I was going to be called names for asking a question on a message board. I didn't realize that being new and not knowing everything about the game was a personal offense to *edited*

Anyway, out of the group now. Thanks to everyone who answered my "nasty post" .

Bahahahaha.

Even the innocuous has potential for great things.

Jaye, as to your unexpectedly rough treatment, don't feel too bad. If I had been permanently banned from the message boards, I'd probably be pretty cranky, too. :)

This is true and should not have any bearing on you asking a question and being given a reasonable answer.

It is also true that the 30L FIND listings per parcel add together to formulate a group liability each week that is even distributed (charged) to every member of the group. You'll also see this occur when the group sells land and the monies are distributed the next day. Functionally, this entry is telling you that the group is paying money to it's members by charging money to it's members.

Confused yet, so am I. It's smoke and mirror accounting. If you look in your transaction history, you'll see that groups also pay you daily dividends based on dwell, land sales and such. Generally, with a land owning group, especially a rental group, you'll end up making more money per week than you spend on the parcel listings. AFAIK that's the only actual group liability that comes out of the members pockets, anything else, including land, bought by an officer for the group is charged directly to that avs account, not the members at large.

One important fact to remember is that the parcel fee liability is only charged once a week while dwell dividends are paid out daily. The more important factor to balance is the cost of the rent you're paying to the cost of purchasing land paying monthly tier directly to Linden Lab.

Awww, that's almost cute...*edited*

No, your question isn't out of line. No, no one who responded to you (in forum that is) is anything other than great.

If you don't like the group enough to be willing to pay the fee, by all means, ditch it. Yes, if everyone follows this there are some groups that will perish. But come on, if you can't convince people to pay a couple lindens to be in your group, your group isn't worth the space it's taking up.

I knew this was going to happen...

Now I'm being harassed in game...

I added Prokofy Neva to my mute list before even posting on this thread about it...and yet i somehow just got a message from Prokofy Neva... I checked my mute list and he's still on it.

as well as "Random Unsung" sending me a message saying I 'posted lies' on the forum and that they were going to go blog about it or something....

I don't know who Random Unsung even is! Or why he/she is messaging me!

I'm sure this is offtopic from the original post, but I don't know where to post this ...

Eh, maybe there's some embarassment there about lack of dwell. Don't take it personally.

Okay, just got a good long lesson in dwell vs. group liability. Group liability has nothing to do with dwell in Linden Lab's accounting, apparently.

Group liability happens whether or not there is dwell as long as the group's land is listed in Find Places. The confusion is why group liability comes listed as "group liability" and comes directly out of one's stipend. It is not balanced against the total amount of dwell a group's land receives in your transaction history for you, you have to do the balancing out yourself (math, aaaghh!)

The only way to get out of group liability IS to leave the group, but then, you also lose out on dwell payments the group receives, which usually is over and above the cost of group liability.

I had no idea I was "hated." That's... well, a waste of someone's energy.

It was a misunderstanding I had from this:

But I guess it's not true, yay! Someone needs to work on group land tools/education/accounting/wiki/whatever, and I need to work on my psychic abilities so I don't step into something that's apparently innocent but actually not.

I'm still being attacked in game as well, by the name which mustn't be spoken, and also by another which I'm guessing now is probably just an alias of his.

I don't know whether to be flattered by the fact that he's going to 'blog' about me and spending all this time and energy on me or not lol

Abuse report them for harrassment.

As for which one of us is hated by the lead character of the crappy novel 'the forged coupon' - that much is easy to answer:

All of us.

And being blogged is a good thing - you haven't really arrived in SL till you get your own hate on blog entry :P
